Asus "we will supply but only if you get 200 commits"

Pretty bad behaviour, I hope people stop buying asus with the attitude there.

ASUS should be saying they'll supply regardless. They're literally selling their lesser cards for the price of the more expensive ones. Free money for them.

Hey, would you like to buy my VW Polo for the price of a golf? I know I said you could have a Golf, but I sort of stopped producing them. No, I won't refund you the difference because the price of that Polo has gone up since you bought the Golf on the assumption I'd actually deliver it to you.

That's literally what is happening.

exactly pretty poor indeed, ASUS deserve nothing but bad press for this, I thought EVGA were bad and although customers are only just starting to get the FTW card at least we had updates from Ben and Gibbo was able to update us from speaking with Ben, Asus? absolutely nothing, so they don't deserve peoples money!

This^ 100%

Asus really screwed up this gen

I voted yes but I have a great deal of sympathy with the comments people have made about the inequity of being asked to take a lesser product for the same price because Asus can't deliver the original product. I feel the same about it but was willing to trade down simply because I have just run out of patience to wait for the Strix OC to turn up and the idea it could be another month or two or even longer was too depressing.

I don't blame OCUK for this it is not their fault at all. They have been caught between the failure of Asus to deliver stock and the necessity to raise prices due to the exchange rate massively increasing their purchasing cost for stock. This means if you ordered a Strix pre 23rd June then the cost of now moving to an alternative has become quite substantial. If it were not for this I would have given up on the Strix long ago and moved but I have a problem justifying paying another £200+ to switch to an alternative just because I don't want to wait any longer. Obviously this is very tough on OCUK as well as they have unhappy customers but it is unreasonable to expect them to offer switches to alternative cards at prices that would be hugely loss making, at the end of the day they are a business and have to break even or they won't survive.

It seems that there is no consensus on accepting this offer so we are probably back to waiting for who knows how long for Asus to deliver what it promised.

My own preference as an Alternative is the Gigabyte Xtreme but the additional cost is still off putting. Perhaps a better indication of just how long this is likely to take would help. I am 180 in the queue and if its going to be a few weeks then I can wait but if we are talking late autumn I may have to find the extra money to switch.

Most companies dont take the money months before they ship. If OCUK dont pre-book dollars it is entirely their own fault if there is a shortfall between the price they promised, the money they already took and the fact they didnt use that money to buy dollars at the rate it was when the money was taken.

I suspect Asus are not producing the OC because they sold too many at the wrong price. Stall us all out till we buy a different card or demote ourselves to the lesser card for the same price.

Scumbag tactics. Offer me a better trade or lose money on the card I bought. Simple. I'm hopeful that OCUK are able to work some magic with another brand to bring us a better trade. I certainly will never buy Asus again.

A Gigabyte G1 instead. A much better choice when you consider that ASUS are basically expecting you to pay for an OC and get given a cheaper card. Much better to give your money to another company instead otherwise ASUS are just getting a better deal out of failing to deliver.

Then there is the questions surrounding if these are binned or not. I know Gibbo has said they're simply untested though.

Fair play to Overclockers for trying to do something and get people that paid their money their cards. It would leave a very sour taste in my mouth being offered a lesser card (perhaps only in BIOS, but still) to the 1 I ordered for the same money however.

Can't these guys just get a refund instead of being offered a alternative that's inferior? So they can purchase a good card that's in stock?.

Of course. The problem being, is that all the cards have since shot up in price, so no matter what, they will be paying more. I believe the pro-order price was around £620 for the Strix (I stand to be corrected). Now most of the better cards that clock to around Strix levels of performance out the box are much more expensive.

Hi Gibbo,

Thanks for time you're spending with community.

I've ordered GeForce GTX 1080 DirectCU III Strix Gaming Aura for £619 on 30th of May.
If the offer is applicable to my model ( I think it should ) then I'm voting yes to 1080 Strix Gamer OC.

its a shame really , i love asus , and really want a strix card but it aint fair that asus are not keeping up to what they say , if asus actually said what the issue is and was honest i would be more forgiving , and feel for overclocks as they are for most acting as the face of the underlining issue

Unhappy STRIX 'buyers' ought to get a full refund, this is a joke.

It's not that we can't get a refund, it's that our money is objectively worth a lot less if we refund it now.

We can't get any similar GPU without spending the best part of £100 extra. I'm not paying £700 for a GPU. If I get a refund, I'm going 980 TI tbh.

The perils of pre-ordering. I don't blame you going for a 980ti. It's absolutely disgusting what has occurred here, i'd be absolutely livid.
