I concur. I bought the boxed version from you fine chaps when it came out and I think it is one of the best upgrades for the money I have ever spent!

Great price! Got one when they first came out and makes a discernible difference to audio through my Z-5500s and headphones.
Is that pic right or is the card physically different from the retail version as it doesn't look like it has the optical out like on the retail version pictured here or is it a different type of plug?

Would this be better than my Asus Xonar D2?

Depends what your using it for.. the built in headphone Amp is a benefit if you use your headphones a lot. other than that the D2 does have more features so it all boils down to what you use your sound card for. :)

I dont own headphones, I run some Fostex studio Moniters, there Bi-Amplified and sound immense :D

I used the optical out on my D2 and my Razer Barracuda before that, into my home cinema amp due to its ability to encode the surround sound into DTS, but I now use the analogue outs into the multichannel inputs on my amp as for music and things the extra layer of encoding I felt was taking something away, especially when I can set my amp to bypass all its video and processing circuits and see another jump in sound quality.

If you are wanting to watch a lot of DVD's then maybe you will miss the optical out, but in any case, with PC speakers or headphones this card is perfect, and there really is no excuse not to run an aftermarket sound card at this price, no matter how good you already think your onboard sound is.

I fail to understand why Asus Rampage boards have that pathetic POS from creative attached, when Asus already have their own superb soundcards though?

I'm with Jaffa on this, with quality hifi kit, these Asus cards really shine :D

Tempted to get one soon, ordered a hard drive and some media today instead lol time to replace my old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz thing which was apparently once good haha :D

Would these even be worthwhile buying for 2:1 speakers, for music mainly but also a bit of gaming. No headphones

I have a X-FI Extreme music and cant for the life of me get my microphone working since moving to Windows 7, whats the 5.1 sound like on these cards ?

Edit: found other thread, apologies.
