Don't listen to those who tell you to set it to 2 Channels for music. 8 sounds far better!

Number of channels in practically any application shouldn't affect music (there was some player where I could hear a difference, I forget which one) but most music is 2 channel and setting the card to 8 makes no difference. It works both ways though, you don't lose any quality/change the sound by setting to 8, but you might as well keep it at 8 because you don't gain anything by setting it to 2

I'm using Foobar2000 and 2Ch. sounds miles worse than 4 (6 and 8 are pretty much the same as 4 for music)

Yeah setting the Xonar control panel to 8 channels doesn't really make any difference to music since they are mostly stereo and use only 2 channels out of the 8.

Using Foobar2000 and selecting the "Convert stereo to 4 channels" Active DSP setting, now that's where it makes an obvious difference.

In the end it's all about the software and any extra tweaks and settings you use.

Took delivery of one this morning after picking one up for £18 on last weeks "weekly deals".

I have a D2X in my main PC and like it so thought would give the DG a shot, the difference over the onboard is easily recognisable.

A fantastic upgrade IMO and a fantastic little card.
