At Last - surround gaming with decent graphics

Here is my first pic, just the desktop for the moment, comments?

Tryin to put a pic of FEAR up, but keep getting killed before I find somewhere with some light!!!

One good thing, if the game doesnt support it al la BF2, it automatically switches to the center monitor and plays as I did before in 1280x1024 :D

Here it is, had to start FEAR again, gives a much better FOV, still runs smooth!

Quite impressed with it on the 19 inch monitors (but as they needed to be cheap there is some colour difference which is a tad annoying!) Angle the monitors by about 15 degrees and its something else - you feel right in the game!

Tried it with MS Flight Sim 2004 and still need to find a way of increasing the FOV without the normal "zoom out" which is not enough!

Overall - I LIKE IT !!!! :D :D :D :D

you running at the recommended rez on matrox site of 3840x1024?

no gfx card or cards would handle that in new games at a reasonable speed.

He is indeed (and they can :p ) - just getting him to install Fraps so we can get an accurate idea of how it's coping - so far so good - Fear running smooth with things set between medium and high at full resolution

This is definitely why they invented SLi!

this could be used to your benefit . e.g. online gaming for example in cs source i sometimes see more than the normal gamer because i have a large ws lcd, i can see people at the side of my screen when other people cant

That's exactly why BF2 won't let you change the FOV - real shame - would be awesome to play it in wrap around surround! (B*****s) :)

you can can you not, using by typing in a manual res into the shortcut, is FOV field of view? does it not change automatically with res?

Unfortunately not - you get the increased resolution but the Field of View stays the same so it looks 'odd' - still better than narrow-screen though.

Is it possible for games that don't support WS to just use the middle monitor?

Cleverly, the matrox defaults to the middle screen if the resolution drops to normal limits (ie 1280*1024) so that's exactly what you get :)

im curious how much did the lcd's and maqtrox cost say compared to the dell 3007 im sure that it runs at a similar res as your setup just that its more in line with a normal screen, so the dell would show a similar fov if not better because it shows larger height too as well as width

3 19" screens = £450

Matrox triple head = £200

Total = £650

Dell 30" = £1200

Significantly cheaper.

Not only is it cheaper, it also gives you the added flex of angling the screens for peripheral vision (this helps with some software that fisheye's the larger resolutions).

I also wanted the ability to use the screens on other machines if needed.

Total Cost was:

3x19 inch TFT £404 incl P+P
TH2Go £210 incl P+P

= £614

This to me was worth it, thought about going to the Dell 24inch but this solution is more to my needs (and its a gadget!!)

Will install Fraps tomight (trying to move house so time is limited) but I can assure you with FEAR mostly on Max incl 2xAA and 4xAF it runs very well on the SLI'd 7800GTX

Would love to try it out but don't own oblivion at the moment

Could you do me a favour?

If you own GTR could you try playing that on it, or just download the demo. It should fully support the resolution and looked awesome when I tried it on two monitors. Should look even better on three.
