At last!!

Yeah all they did was fit a new socket and plugged the modem and home hub in. The guy was done in an hour. Good service and more than impressed with the internet speeds so far no slow downs at all.

Wow your guy was slow! Mine did it in 30 minutes and that included the time to change the location of the master socket and finish his brew.

Though I should point out it was Christmas Eve, so he may have been more motivated than usual! :p

Am I the only one who dies a little inside every time Cable and VDSL get passed off as Fibre Optic?
It's like saying you have a Ferrari because your Fiat was made in Italy.

Still, it's a miles better connection than the pedal-car equivalent we get out here in the countryside, Grats!

To be fair he was done a lot quicker but we were both as geeky as eachother and chatted more than he worked lol.

IF for any reason you do decide to sign with BT for 12/18 months remember if you pay your Line rental up front that saves you a coupla quid a month

I would hope that no1 on these forums are with;

A) an 18 month contract
B) A BT Contract.

Every one to their own. I have virgin 20mb service and I recieve 0.1mb to 2 mb speeds for the last 5 months with constant connection time outs. After constant calling and complaining to find that its a high utilisation issues and the forever pushing forward of repair dates, I have ran out of energy, never again will I trust them to provide a service, honestly missed so much work as a result.

Yes to both. Market 1 exchange, my choice is BT or AOL or TalkTalk.
We recently moved, BT offers best package for us at a reasonable price....
TalkTalk the gimps on the phone were useless. AOL I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. BT we already were with thus no reconnection etc. charges...

It's like going to PC world for components. Overpriced junk. 18 month contracts are a joke these days. Just wait till they put 24 month contracts into place just like phone networks. Absolutly a joke.

Nothing wrong with 18month contracts and BT, If you have any alternatives for 37Mbps down and 8Mbps up over my phone line and can transfer 300gb a month for £24.99 or less i'd like to know.

I take it you have a nice choice for your ISP then? Plenty of people have limited ISP choices, and for me, in my exchange BT was by far the best option.
I could go with TalkTalk or AOL who use exactly the same BT equipment and get worse service. Bash BT as much as you want, the same as 24-month mobile contracts, but that is the way it is going....you don't have to subscribe, and to be frank and honest, moaning that BT is a joke isn't really constructive is it. Most people on these forums perfectly well understand and research their options, just some have less options than others. In the current financial climate I could point out that most FUP's and/or download limits are being scaled back, nearly all connections are more aggressively throttled and this forum has a few examples of people having their contracts terminated by ISP's for excessive downloading.

You make the mistake of assuming that A, the limit is actually 300Gb (I've not seen it stated officially anywhere) and B, If the limit is 300GB BT could easily change that to 50GB tomorrow and people would have 17 months+ left to run on their contract.

I'd rather be on a shorter 12 month contract and know EXACTLY what my bandwidth allowance is going to be over the duration of that contract.

It's 300GB. I tested it out one month and received the warning email at 240GB, which corresponds in ratio to the old 80GB warning email and 100GB FUP in ratio.

And yes it is stated officially:

Dear Customer,

We thought you'd like to know that your broadband usage in September is now above 240GB.

In accordance with our Fair Usage Policy, and to protect the online experience of all our customers, if your monthly broadband usage goes over 300GB...

There is of course always the possibility that the FUP on any ISP can get altered for good or for worse but in reality, the probability of significant lowering is negligible.

I'm sure reducing the fup like that would be good enough to argue breach of contract....and which ISP tells you exactly your bandwidth allowance now then?

But it's not a set allowance. It's merely the figure BT are using as part of their "Unlimited" FUP at the moment.

There's nothing to say they won't lower that amount. Maybe significantly. That's especially likely with the FTTC/VDSL2 rollout gaining pace again.
