At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

I got around double the performance upgrading to a 4070 from a 5700 but £560 was was more than I would have liked to have paid.

I will try and wait until I can double the performance again hopefully under £500 but who knows if / when that will happen

Are we talking initial outlay or total price?
Since my ATI 9800pro over 20 years ago I've sold to upgrade and the majority of time it's covered over half the cost. Occasionally it was just under but other times I was able to sell for more than the cost of the new card (8800GT comes to mind).

My current 4090 was just under £1500 but selling the 3080 covered a good chunk of that... I have no plans to get a 5090, but if I did, I would only get the FE and my 4090 would cover over half the cost again.
I wouldn't put a limit on how much I would spend, but I would like my current card to continue covering approx half the cost.

You might get double the performance with the RTX 7080 for the bargain price of £1500.

I think when they cost more than an entire current gen games console when new, is about when it starts to feel too much. So about £500? I don't think it should cost more than that to play most modern games at 4K, but for various reasons, here we are at 2K gpus.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs for PC gamers the costs involved today.

It is when you think you also have to spend £000s on the rest of the system not to bottleneck the GPU

I snagged my 4070 super for £470 new on the bay, So I guess my max is £500, I did spend £840 on my EVGA 3080 thats the most Ive spent on a gpu and tbh I dont think it was worth it.

About the cost of a new RRP games console like the PS or Xbox + maybe around 10-15%.

So yea, gonna be second hand last gen or bargain seeking from here on out. Glad I had fun over the last 20 odd years.

I'd pay up-to £1200 , but only if I felt I was getting a decent boost. I don't really get that with current cards.

The boost to rasterization performance is not worth it. I like RT, but will happily disable it if I feel it's getting in the way of a good experience.

At the point sub £1000 cards are £1200-1800. Remember when the mark up was like £20-£50 or whatever. Who pays these prices when FE like £980. Utter joke :)
