A friend had an Atari ST and it broke or he had an accident with it and got an Atari STE. He was very pleased as you can imagine.
Great fun filled tip is the PC with a floppy disk drive can actually write ST disks so that they're usable in a proper ST!
Music teacher also had a 1040 in school. Made some really good sounding music and some games (Bloodwych) had more functionality - though some were horrid.
Overall I'd go Amiga over ST but had one up until 5 years ago when I gave it away as a present for someone emigrating.
