Athlon 64 X2 - Windows only recognises one core. Help!

It must be the processor. If your friend's mobo gives the same result it must be the CPU. (the probability of having bothh mobo's faulty is negligible and I do not believe it either)

Yeah but if they didn't bother clearing the CMOS and their both using the same mobo then that could very well be what's at fault.

I have the same mobo and X2 4800. When I moved from my 3500 Winnie to this one I did not have to do anything like this, a simple swap, that was all. Many people here have experienced the same seamless operation that make me think that there must be something more to the CPU.

IIRC he did clear the CMOS on several occasions although he mentioned some wierd behaviour.

I think that should he contact AMD directly he would be sorted out.

When installing windows xp, at the start it says press F6 press F5 then go up the list select multiprocessor and your sorted. Best not to do it in windows IMO could loose performance ect.

Got a feeling that a fair few people will disagree with you.
