ATI 2D better than nVidia ? proof inside!

I have noticed one minor issue playing back video (any player, I use MPC and WMP11) where there is a 1 pixel line either across the top or button of the video (between the letterbox edge and video edge)

Here's a screenshot of what I mean:

cat8.7videoissue.jpg

I looked for video options in CCC but could not change anything that made it go away!

Also in MPC with the 8800GT I could press 2,4,6,8 on numpad to scale the video being played vertically/horizontally etc, basically zoom it around to a custom aspect ratio or press 5 to reset to video default.

With the ATI drivers I cannot do this anymore and this is related to the line issue above because the same line issue occured on the nvidia card ONLY when I enabled EVR mode in MPC (though WMP had no issues as it didn't have an EVR mode in options)

Seems the ATI driver is forcing some kind of video layer on top possibly to improve video quality or to hardware accelerate any directshow video being played - their own EVR if you will.

Anyone know how to stop this ? or is it a CAT 8.7 bug?

I'm certainly not getting that line on my x1950 pro, although in all likelyhood my CATs are probably miles out of date

7.11 :o

MrK,

I've no idea how to stop it but I get this too. Rather than it being a line, I think you will find it is the top line of pixels being repeated at the bottom of the screen and vice versa. Try finding a piece of video where you have a dark colour in the bottom half of the picture and a lighter colour at the top of the picture and you will get the line. It also happens for me if the situation is reversed, I get the line at the top of the screen.

You're right! it's as if the top line of the video is being swapped with the bottom line so in fact 2 lines (bottom and top!)

Bizarre!

yup i get that ever since I went to ATI, must be a known issue by now. also I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned on this forum, but I cant find the thread.

Just did the MPC & the 1234..ect numberpad thing worked & i don't have that line.
I'm on 3x3780 CF, got to be a driver bug on the 4XXX

I want a 4870 but I refuse to move from my fence lol

I want to see 1Gb benchies and 4870X2 although it will be well out of my price range.

I have about £200 to spend but would stretch for something thats going to be worth it, only game I currently play is COD4 but I want to be ready for future releases too.

I now play GRID with "ultra" settings, reflections on 1024 because of the VRAM not playing fair with only 512MB ram but with Ultra @ 4xFSAA 1920x1200 I get 60FPS.

Fair !

I used to have to have a mix of high, 512 reflections and medium trees + some ultra on the 8800GT in order to peak 60fps !

Are all these settings in the game menu?. I've not seen the reflection thing you're talking about as in 512/1024 and such . Help!.

Reason I'm asking as I have everything set to max with 4xAA @ 1600x1200 as I feel the burn a little with these settings at 1920x1200. Game is totally smooth and playable but at 1600x1200 I feel it's better without that slight strain. I think I'm just being picky though :).

The output options don't really help though because they introduce another issue, say I set it to EVR-Custom, what will happen is the lines go away but drag the video window around and it's very choppy!

The same goes for VMR9-Renderless etc! none of those modes also allow the numkey video scaling.

Probably stick with it until they release CA 9.8 or something !

If you press Num Lock it will let you resize the screen with 8,6,4,2.

I just realised I had VSYNC enabled :p turned it off and now FPS is often higher and also upped a few more settings.

Here's what I use ingame:

The ones on "HIGH" don't have an "ULTRA" setting btw ::)

Cool video :D. "Shadows" show up as "high" as the max to be selected for me and "Reflections" are "Ultra". It's weird how you get 512/1024 etc?. I tried this on the 1.1 Patch and then the 1.2 Patch but still different. Strange .

Its a user Patch...look on the GRID forums.
