ATI 5970 Engineering Sample

As this is single PCB, you can then crossfire it with another one, then clock them both under water, and whoosh, gaming setups for a few years with noooo problems. :D

I suspect the names will be HD5970 and HD5950. But there's no reason why they might not go for EHD5970OMGWTFFTWXTX or simply GTX396 ;)

I could only see myself buying one of these if they was original 5870 speeds really then. I won't mind if it was 3 6 pin connecters or 2 8 pins if power requirements is a problem.

So is quad fire still scaling badly ? I wonder will 2 of these 5890's be slower than say a trifire setup with 1 5890, and 1 5870 ?

Also, will there be any advantage to 2gb cards (upcoming 2gb 5870 or 5890) in gaming, or will that only be useful for multi monitor setups ?

The only game that I know that would benefit from 2gb over 1gb that's out right now is GTA IV but I tend to look at these things over a longer period and I know if one game is pushing the 1Gb then other won't be far behind.

I can see overclocking of this card being handicapped due to the card only having 1 6pin and 1 8pin power connectors but I guess we will have to weight until it's finally out to be sure.
