ATI 9.4

Not exactly saying they are dodgy, just that ATI suffer from a bad rep for dodgy drivers, and that big drops in some games coupled with what look to be very few significant fixes (or at last listed ones) won't do them any favours on this front.

I wasn't actually aware that the 9.3s were unstable either, tbh.

I've had no problems myself (I've not heard of any either, although I've hardly been looking for news of them) but I guess that doesn't mean there weren't any.

Still, even if that were the case, having frame-rates drop off so significantly in some instances does seem... well at least somewhat undesirable for a new driver release..

in terms of driver rep trust me ATi is leaps and bounds above nvidia who release a decent driver once or twice a leap year.

Well, I can believe that in terms of what actually happens. I've been through an entire graphics card cycle with a green card without updating my drivers once. I was barely even aware of when new drivers came out most of the time - and that's something I've not been able to say when I've had a red card.

I'm not bashing ATI here. I feel more affinity towards them than to nVidia for lots of reasons.

I'm just not sure that commonly-held opinion reflects what you're saying, though. Even if it is right.

I wouldn't be the first to suggest that ATI's monthly driver release schedule invites a fair amount of scrutiny on drivers that perhaps wouldn't have been released under other circumstances. And now if it is true (and I still have to say "if") that their first driver after a high-profile new card release causes some big drops in frame-rates, well, it's fuel to the fire for some people, I reckon.

i got 9.4 drivers in windows seven, i just followed this

someone said:
install, goto Device Manager (Win Key + Pause/Break) choose adapter>update driver> browse to C:\ATi\9.4 or wherever you unzipped install files to, >Packages>Drivers>Display then select the LH6A_INF, OK then let it install. CCC and driver now 9.4

If its frame rates in benchmarks that your on about then its of no concern to most.

can anyone help me with the new drivers (and any other drivers) since i had 9.2 installed i cant seem to install any new drivers or remove the old ones, the ccc install will just crash as soon as the install starts. any help with this will be appreciated

daft question time, but why is everyone concerned about whether it's compatible with Windows 7?

Isn't windows 7 is a BETA download, not available in any shops and therefore anyone downloading this should know that there might be problems with drivers and compatablitlity issues.

Surely the ATI people would have concentrated on VISTA and XP users - the people who parted with their hard earned cash and not some beta software available for a free download.

I'm sticking with 9.3 for the next few days at least, its run everything fine for me so far. I had one or two very minor issues with 9.1 and 9.2.

I think its fair to say that from what everyone has said so far...I am sticking with 9.3...have not had any bother since installing them so why change if people are reporting pretty much all the same thing saying there is something wrong with the new drivers? I love ATI but until the issue has been resolved, I am staying with 9.3 :D

Yeah may as well stick with the 9.3's if you don't have a 4890, as these are just an official set for them imo, be why they were out so quick, as they never release em this early, not in the first week of the month. :)
