ATi Catalyst 9.7 Released

No noticeable difference between 9.6 and 9.7 for me both on games or the windows experience index, using the said operating system a few posts above. Although I didn't do a very thorough test, and most significantly, I haven't tried any of the games people seem to be having problems with such as Arma 2.

Ignore the card in my sig, as it is RMA at the moment. However, with my trusty Gigabyte 3870 DDR3 installed these drivers seem really good. I finished Bioshock over the weekend and that ran at full settings well. Fallout 3 does too at max settings with 4xAA and 15xAF. Granted, sometimes it dips down to ~20 FPS, but mainly performance is very good for 1680x1050!

I am very happy with these drivers and Windows 7 RC1. I did notice the performance index increasing by 0.5 too.

Haven't really tested the drivers all that much, but I hate the new CCC. It really is a step back. I hate change for the sake of change. Who the hell authorized the release of this new CCC ?

9.6? they also crash COH within 20m in DX10 mode; I am using 9.5 :o

With the 9.6s I had to play around with the in-game settings to get the game stable. I tried the same thing with the 9.7s but it didn't work for some reason.

I'm about to try the Sapphire 9.7s, if I still have problems I'll have a look at the 9.5s before going back to the 9.6s if needs be.

As I say this is a game specific issue, CoH doesnt like DX10, make it use DX9 by changing the shader quality from ultra to either high (pref) or low

I don't think we can blame only COH for the DX10 implementation because is stable with Nvidia and also with ATI 9.4 and 9.5 so I wouldn't say COH doesn't like DX10, its only the 9.6 (by the way ati optimised this drivers for COH promising more performance and as result we get crashes on DX10) and aparently 9.7 which I am not going to install till I know they are stable and trouble free with my favourite game.

Looking into the nvidia drivers thread in this forums seems we are not the only one with trouble.

I am wonder if the real problem is DX10 implementation so lets start blaming microsoft ;-)

That's the main change I made when I was testing it to get it working, I had a feeling it was the difference between DX10 and DX9 but never bothered to look into it further once I got the game running.

I'm not overly bothered whether it's DX9 or 10 as long as it runs nicely and doesn't crash.

re: 9.7s and Win7 (16385).

ATI claimed they'd enabled the Video Encoding option for x64 Windows products in 9.7; I couldn't see it. In fact ATI wouldn't even publish my comments regarding why it had gone AWOL.

Has anyone seen the mythical Video Encoding option under any variant of x64 Windows??

i had it in vista x64, but i can't find it in windows 7 (16385, RTM) so i guess it doesn't have it yet.

I actually reinstall 9.6 last night,

It was pretty much unplayable in arma 2 with 9.7. The frame rates drop once I'm in the wood and I had no problem with 9.6

What also annoyed me was I've to disable crossfire before playing arma 2.
