I get random crashes when browsing and just generally using windows, i get the bsod with at2. something irq error i beleave, any ideas what it is as its frustrating, as when i then switch off the pc and reboot it takes a few atempts to get the pc booting and the monitor back on.

its a A8N sli premium
Powercolour X1800XT
catalist 6.1 and .net 1.1 installed.

Ram has the volatages and timings set correctly as thought that might be it but nope.

Annoyingly it plays games for like 7 hours straight without a single problem lol.

Please help as i am seriously considering selling all the parts and goin back to a crap pc.

You know I’m getting these errors as well. Some times, at very random moments, my PC just resets. I send the error report to Microsoft its telling me that it was due to a device driver error. I’ve been updating my drivers regularly so I don’t know what’s going on. Luckily it happens as infrequently as once a week, so im just living with it. Maybe its something to do with the PC build, it was the first PC I built.

mine said its a device driver ati2dvag or something getting stuck in a infinit loop  lol
Uninstall all Ati and NET, then strip the drivers with drivecleaner in safemode. Put em back, then see what the event log for the system says after its been running awhile.

Will do that now cheers for the advice

EDIT: I have 2 videos i am going to upload later that show what i need to do to get my pc to boot, it realy is comical lol.

Here is the video.

Boot up

This video shows how long and how many times i have to do this silly siwtch off and switch on open doors precedure in order to get a brand new pc with brand new components from ocuk to boot.

It realy is crazy. others may have or seen this problem coments and help are appreciated. this is not driver related. but hardware i assume.

Ps. if u get bored jump to 2mins 20 in ;) - video is divx

I had similar problems with a DFI infinity. I believe its bios related. I tried every bios at one point, trying to find the best overclocker, but in the end I just ran it stock and tried to not turn it off. It used to give me a message about the video extra power connector not being plugged in.

I would say its motherboard/PSU related. Before I had DFI infinity I had Abit NF& and Epox 8rda+ and they didnt have the cold boot problems.

I found that unplugging the extra video connector, turning on and then connecting the extra connector and reseting could make it boot. However I used to strip the memory off and sometimes the graphics card to get it to boot. Used to give different bleeps when something major was not present.

It could be a PSU problem though, what is your PSU and its max current supply on 12v rail? ATI recommends 38A on 12v rail.

a lot of people have suggested a power supply problem so may just go ahead go overkill and get a 700watt one lol

The current one is Antec Neo Power 480 with dual 12V rail with 15 Amps & 18 Amps Output on the 12 V rails and it is a Antec True Power Version 2.0 PSU.

So do you think that may not be enough, i though it may be a bad mobo, bios is latest beta and all drivers updated including the new cat 6.2 betas still crashes and still wont boot first time lol

TBH think i will just sell all the parts and get a shuttle.

I dont know if it is the same problem but a friend of mine was having similar issues with his own built pc. He persisted & it was eventually fixed by a mobo bios update (diff mobo to yours though).

Dude, if that were me it be sledgehammer time. TBH, I don't think PSU, maybe bios. Have you tried disabling the onboard ata controllers (I'm assuming its using a sata boot disk). Thinking some sort of IRQ conflict? I'd disable everything, get it booting then reconnect and find the conflict. Looks like the motherboard can't finish a boot table sequence, so bios or the motherboard is fubar. PSU's either work or they don't, overload in 3D or 100% CPU and they drop.

boots off a 200gb western digital special edition and i have a 250gb connected in the first sata port.

heard a lot about this irq thing, appreciate everyones input and tbh i must have a lot of patience to put up with it lol.

i think i will strip it down completly today and rebuild from scratch. sounds like the best plan and leave everything at default with only the bare essentials.

Can you tell me what a boot table sequence is please. appreciate your help everyone and for watchin my little movie :p

I could have sworn from the video it was a DFI motherboard, but its not.
That is just sooo frustrating just watching it.If in the bios you have disabled all those unnessesary ports that might take up the irq you need and a bios flash for the motherboard doesnt fix it.
Firmware flash for a cd drive perhaps might help.
good luck dude

Have u tried resetting the CMOS.
We built a pc the other day and it would not boot, until we reset the BIOS and it worked, never had to do this befor!

In the bios there is a list of things the cpu runs through to check, like is there memory, is there a graphics output, and so on. The computer can only connect to so many devices, so some of them have to share control interupts or IRQ's. It may have trouple assigning an IRQ to a faulty or non recoginsed device or there is a fault and the start up sequence is sticking at one point. Disconnect everything, disable everything. Connect the graphics card and the boot disk and see what happens.

have not tried reseting the cmos yet will do that,

Disconnected everythign except. gcard still same thing tried lots of diffrent memory and still same,

gona try the bios reset

DO IT!!! do it now ;)

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone had a similar problem. It turned out that the guy needed to plug in the asus EZPlug connector located at the bottom of the motherboard, nearest the standard PCI slots.

Do you have one of these molex sockets on your motherboard? If so, have you connected a power lead to it. If you are not sure what I am talking about, have a flip through your mobo manual and look for info on EZ Plug. :)

thanks andy but thats always been plugged in, didnt have time to do i a cmos reset al do it when i get in at 4am from work am more awake then lol
