*Strokes Asus 7950* my precioussssss :D

Do think the 7870's are good cards, but when they are just over £200 will be more worth it I reckon.

Are they actually available Gibbo? Site says pre-order?

AMD have lost the plot with their pricing :( These need to be ~£250 tops really as they are pretty much 570 performance, which can be had considerably cheaper.

MSI 7870 = £290
MSI 570 = £240

£50 more for the exact same performance.

Agreed, NVIDIA are now the better value proposition, but for how long, the NVIDIA price drop is only temperory, NVIDIA will pull all price/rebate support towards end of April, so if any old NVIDIA stock left it shall go back to previous pricing.

Though I feel NVIDIA will hold the 570 price where it is, 580 is now EOL and is a good bargain whilst they are available and 680 shall be here in just a few days time at similar to 7970 pricing.

You know it's AMD now right?

As for the the cards the 7870 is a nice card, basically 580 performance for less cash, and it clocks real good as well.

It's not 580 performance, its 570 performance.

If it were 580 they'd be a bargain.

Really 580 performance, I am not seeing that. Maybe when overclocked considerably, but my £300 notes would be going on a 580, not a 7870.

Makes a 570 for £220 look like a bargain. Fail from AMD with pricing.

Makes this mental 570 look like a bargain:-

GTX480 performance for £100 more. This 28nm stuff brings new meaning to the mainstream "value" segment. Whatever happened to faster, cooler, cheaper, for successive generations? Atleast there shouldn't be any stock shortages.

Methinks AMD and NVidia are at it again.

None in stock either, Sapphire had ETA of 19th, now changed to 31st =/

So no 7800's for anyone today.

Yeah it's a mixed bag, up there with a 580 in some and not so much in other games. it's certainly faster than a 570 in a load of games and clocks to 1200Mhz relatively easily. Driver updates have giving it a real performance boost in some titles as well, check out crysis 2 results with an updated driver.

Yes 570 is cheaper but you have way less ram and way more power draw and higher temps.

Agreed, I've seen this too. Given the choice between a 570, 580 or 7870 I would get the 7870, but it is still expensive for what it is.

The GTX 570s have also been at around £230-240 for donkeys, don't know why people think it's great pricing, it's always been around that mark.

Anyway, with regards to the 7870, it seems you're paying a lot for potential overclocking performance, rather than its performance at stock.

7850 isnt too bad considering its supposed to be similar to the 6950 and from the few benches here looks like it benches close to if not better then it. and pricing looks nice

7850 pricing is OK, depending on the game it's between 560Ti and 6950 performance, so it's right where it should be.

It's just the 7870 that's overpriced, it's not worth almost 40% more than the '50, when the performance difference between the two is probably closer to 20% in most cases.

They're both massively overpriced for new generation cards. The 7850 is only 4% faster than the 6950 and replaces it at the same price. The 7780 is only 10% faster than the 6970 for the same price. The 7850 is the slightly better deal but both are rotten offers considering the benefits of a full node jump.
