Im really finding it hard to understand some peoples points on this thread... with new graphics cards.... price brackets are always going to be very similar, so the choices are:
1) faster card / more memory
2) faster card / more memory + new features
Why would anyone go for the first option? Yeah nvidia brought the SM3.0 stuff when there were hardly any games, but the software developers are NEVER going to take the step first; hardware always needs to support the features before the software comes out.
Not sure what some people have against progression. Last time i checked the computing industry was veryyyyyyyyy backward compatable and thus no one should be forced to upgrade. Games are only just starting to have a min requirement of a DX9 card.
I dunno - not happy if your not moaning :}
@Loads: You gotta start looking at things from different angles.... the majority of people are NOT upgrading from top end to top end.... most people buy top end, get their moneys worth (ie skip a gen or two) and buy top end again. Thus the X850/6800 people -> R600 will be a perfect buy. No one is going to buy the R600 purely for DX10 games. Bigger picture dude.
