Atmosphere inside football stadiums

it's just what football has become these days, it's become safer and thus has lost some of the edge from it. All seater stadia have had a huge impact on the atmosphere at games, going to Ninian Park as a bristol city fan was always a great day out, the atmosphere had that little bit of bite to it and thats what made it more enjoyable, obviously the bottles of **** and the other items chucked at you wern't as enjoyable but the atmosphere was. Since moving to the CCFC stadium the whole thing seems sanitised, a shame for me as some of my favourite away days have come at the old stadium where you could still stand up and get some kind of atmosphere going.

The Emirates has the worst atmosphere, you could probably have a chat with your mate sitting in the opposite stand, it's that quiet!

Any London derby between Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal is pretty live, especially at the lane.

I agree that a lot of foreign clubs make a more vicious atmosphere, although you ought to have been at the Stoke City vs Manchester City match in Stoke's maiden Premier League season, Shaun Wright-Philips got Rory Delap sent off, which provoked the most tribal, passionate and sustained atmosphere I've been in. There are Youtube videos but it doesn't do it justice.

if you want to sample a partizan atmosphere you want to go to barca or to argentina for the fans really. the boos; shrill whilstes every time the opponents touch the ball etc plus the way the fans become zoned into it is quite amazing, and much more interesting than watching the 'latics'

singing:

Come on Oldham!

Come on Oldham!!

meat pie sausage roll, come on oldham, gis' us a goal!!?!

<please>

its charming but its not spectacular is it?

to be completely honest, i much prefer the atmosphere outside of the premiership in england. i stopped accepting free tickets off a mate to go to the emirates as it compares not a jot to the close and awkward stadiums in the lower leagues.

i should not be saying this, but i found a 0-0 QPR home draw to be much more atmospheric than when i saw barcelona play in the champions league a few years ago.

Besiktas let a hooligan leader onto the pitch to whip up the stadium into a frenzy.

Why is this guy allowed into a stadium?

For me the Liverpool and Celtic stadia are far more atmospheric, and thats even from watching them on my sofa.

I'm from Suffolk so have not ties to either club but to me I even get my ahirs standing on egde when I hear Celtic/Liverpool fans sing... I would love to see them on a big champs league night one day.

Bit scared of going, only watched Norwich play hehe and Spurs a couple of times. Spurs compared to Norwich was a huge step up from Norwich's Carrow Road.

The amount of songs that came up was well funny... most of the ring leaders never even watched Spurs play they just faced the away support singing abusive songs lol

The Emirates isn't exactly known for having a good atmosphere, it doesn't help that Arsenal's previous stadium was nicknamed the Library either.

;)

Never experienced atmosphere like a European night or playoff semi final at Elland Road. A capacity crowd is a joy to behold.

It's still pretty good during your run-of-the-mill game with Leeds pulling in more fans than the lower half of the Prem on a consistent basis, but when there really is something to play for it is a bit special.

I think it depends what you're used to. Clubs that have had a lot of recent success will struggle to get their fans up for a game they're expected to win. Clubs that haven't had that on the day of a big game will see their fans really up for it, it's the way of the world.

The atmosphere at white hart lane the other week when they were playing young boys sounded pretty awesome. I only heard it on TV though.

And I do mean the Spurs fans!

I've been lucky to have attended a couple of cup finals at Wembly before the seating when it was 100,000 plus. When you could slip the doorman a fiver to get in but nothing will ever beat the atmosphere inside White Hart Lane 23/05/84. When Graham Roberts got that equaliser, I thought the shelf was going to collapse. I was actually quite terrified and jubilant at the same time. A bit like when I married the wife!

Look at the Spurs squad.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_UEFA_Cup_Final "we'll take more care of you.. Archibald Archibald"
Not a non British player in sight :)

ive been to a fair few UTD games but mostly unimportant ones in the grand scale of things.

i went to watch the UTD v City carling up 2nd leg last season however, and the atmosphere was rocking in the place. especially when rooney popped up and grabbed the last minute winner. the crowd went delirious, everyone was jumping around and hugging each other (despite not knowing the person they were grabbing!)

still some people had already set off to leave 5 mins prior to the goal. despite the result being right in the balance at the time! i felt pleased that they had missed it in a selfish way.

then regretted it later when i got stuck in a car park unable to move for an hour afterwards and dint get home till midnight etc but ah well.
