Attack on NI military base

And what exactly would Britain stand to gain from all this?

Are Iraq and Afganistan not keeping the army stretched enough? Are they yerning for the old times when successive governments seriously considered cutting all ties with us as they couldn't be bothered with the hassle any more.

Teaboy5 just mentioned on msn that it's hard to believe that NI had 27,000 troops deployed at one stage. Yet in Iraq we have 8,000 and the country is 10 times the size.

As you said redeploying at this stage(while we're still in the Middle East) would be seriously stretching things for the Army.

Great, more fearmongering. See my previous post for further comment.

3 people have been killed by people who claim to be part of the RIRA.

It's common sense to monitor the situation closely.

These guys are "bombers" but I'm meant to take seriously that they'd use hair gel and Lucozade for a terrorist attack?
You don't have to. The police do and should.

Obviously not.

The increase in reconnaissance is a response to word on the ground - attacks are likely

The bomb they found in January scared the **** out of the intelligence services. It was far more sophisticated than anything they ever believed the RIRA were capable of putting together. They had to step back and re-think their plan.

Killed i tell ya!!!!!!!!! :p

God knows, i can never understand why they cant send more over there.

Of course you have to have troops training and troops ready to replace those coming off tour. But 8k is a tiny number.

Sure they moved them out of Iraq in the majority a good while ago, theres between 5k and 8k there at one time since, based in Basra airport. They're more focussed on Afghan anyway.

Marching around with troops doesn't strike me as a sensible action in Northern Ireland, if this is what is to come. Police investigation and asking eyewitnesses, gathering evidence yes. You think 27,000 soldiers are there to "monitor" things? I'm not convinced. As someone pointed out that's over three times the deployment in Iraq..

I tell you what, you certainly hate this country.

Indeed I dislike what it has become.

Didn't it take them most of a week to find it, due to the fact that they were told that there was one, and not where.

After the ceasefire's troop levels were decreased some norhern ireland units were disbanded and troops redeployed to other areas such as sierra leone the balkans and more recently iraq and afghanistan.

Ahh ok. I for some reason thought that our troops size had just plummeted as everyone left. Forgot to think that they may be elsewhere.

The comparisons with Afghanistan and Iraq have to stop.

They're all completely different types of operation, don't forget we are acting in coalition with many allies in current ops.

WTF!?

We're not talking marching the streets here.

And there aren't 27,000 here to monitor things, mainly because there aren't 27,000 here.

You're forgetting we're not still in the troubles. We've moved on.

We have running water and electricity now you know.

So why are you having a go at me, the prevoius guy pointed out thatit was 2009? so i said it dosnt matter good tactics keep on living, then you came in with the whole telling ni people how the troubles were...

Because little-to-none of your posts have been from experience. It's like you've been reading a Northern Irish Andy McNabb novel and basing your comments on stories.

All the stories and all the reading in the world can't qualify you to be taken seriously in a thread about this ****ed-up little country.

Nothing personal dude.
