ATV2 Jailbreak

Some help required please!

I have jailbroken the ATV2 and have the sea0npass logo on the screen to confirm the sucess. However, I am now trying to install xmbc but having problems at the first hurdle! The instructions say:

1.Open up your terminal/ssh application and enter the following command to log in to your ATV2:
ssh [email protected]ESS

Ive downloaded putty but not sure what to do after that? It says hostname so I assume I put the ATV" IP in there? But when I click the open button it loads what looks like a dos screen and then asks for what I want to log in as? Ive tried using the IP address again and it then comes up for a password to which I try to type in alpine but I cant type anything in?

Any ideas?

EDIT - Do I need the micro USB connected to SSH into the ATV2 or will it do it over wifi?

EDIT2 - or do I need to plug it directly into my router with a cat5 cable?

Thanks

Just stick the apple tv ip in putty and hit connect.

User root, password is alpine.

Then copy paste the commands from the xbmc install page wiki.

:)

It'll work over WiFi or ethernet, I use Terminal it's much simpler!

Your nearly there Mark M.

Username would be root, password is alpine

EDIT: Randal already said that, missed that on my phone

After that you should get a command prompt like AppleTV$ then you can copy and paste the commands in.

I played around some more last night, finally got iplayer, tvcatchup and some repos working, always tried installing from zip but got an error message "add on is not the correct structure type", copied over manually to XBMC/Addons folder and set permissions to 777, restarted xbmc and picked them up fine and installed perfectly :)

Also got XBMC Constellation for my iPhone from the App Store and got that working this morning. Great remote control app! Free for the ad version but only 69p for full one. Really impressed how well that works

That would be great !

I was looking around and around, I found one that is just too big and I also found one that is TOO Small ?!

I'll message you via trust?

Yep, no worries. I've just popped one in a jiffy bag, hopefully send it out at lunch.

It's the same micro USB as Blackberry use on their handsets btw!

Don't forget xbmc Eden is out for ios now, I installed it yesterday and it seems a lot quicker!

Ah, cheers for the reminder JAMAL.

I updated XBMC last night using the apt-get method. Not only did it fail to install, but it borked my jailbreak. Lost SSH, the XBMC option in FrontRow, and the FC icon in the bottom right.

I had to run Seas0nPass again, then reinstall XBMC from scratch. Lost all my XBMC config and had to reindex my whole media library again.

That said, now it's installed - yes it's a lot better! Lot nippier.

Ok complete noob question. I will shortly have a MBA and will also be getting a Buffalo 1TB NAS to start storing all my media. Can I then use an ATV2 to stream from the NAS to my TV, MBA, other laptops and my iPad?

Presumably your NAS supports Samba, meaning you can stream to XBMC on a Jailbroken ATV2.

You will also be able to stream, or read the files on your MBA as you would a Windows laptop.

You won't be able to stream to an iPad natively, not looked into it much but there's probably an app that will allow you to do that (at risk of sounding like an Apple ad). :)

Well I have eventually managed to get XBMC Eden installed, did a full restore and installed se0npass again.

Just wondering now how I can access my PC or NAS within XBMC? Had a look on the XBMC forum but it doesnt seem to be what Im after as its talking about leaving workgroups and allsorts?

Thanks

4.4.4 untethered is out!

Just about to post this, iam currently on 4.2.2 (2203)

Darwin 11.0.0 XBMC, not looked into XBMC for months as my setup is running sweet. Eager to update for AirPlay tho, any idea if XBMC is supported on the new iOS 4.4.4?
