Audi A1

As a point of note there isn't much difference pricewise between the comparable VAG models on the Company Car list. So a Skoda 1.4 vRS / Polo 1.4 GTI / A1 1.4 S-Line TSI 185 would be roughly the same cost for base spec. I suspect the kit levels would be vastly different though.

You're right there, only the Audi comes with a loyalty card for your local chiropractor as standard.

Nah, just as the polo is an Ibiza in a frock and a Ibiza is a fabia in a frock. What's your point joshy?

The point is that plenty of cars share platforms. It is common place. It does not mean that X is Y with a 'posh frock' and a few grand tacked to the price tag.

Is it so hard to see that an A1 is a polo with a different body, slightly different interior and a different badge? Why don't you just use some common sense rather than scrutinising everything I say.

Children

On topic, I think id go for the polo over the A1, the exterior styling is much better (IMO) however the audi on the inside feels like an audi rather than a VW, if that makes sense. Id personally go for a Polo with good trim level over the A1, however it would all depend on cost...

Do you apply the same level of ridiculousness to all cars that share platforms, or just the A1?

The VAG brands share rather a lot more than just platforms though. The engines are all more or less the same, the electronics are pretty much identical, gearboxes are common across the brands and there is a great deal of commonality of parts all over the cars.

Granted Audi tend to keep the high end engines to themselves, but then there would be no real market for big-engined VW's or Skoda's - they tried it with the Phaeton.

Body panels and interior trim = frock.

The way a car looks and the qulity of the interior are two of the most important factors to most people when buying a car. The vast majority of the buying public aren't going to give a damn that a A1 shares engines, a platform and maybe brake pads with the cheaper Polo. They are buying the end product not the sum of its parts.

That's why this "posh frock" nonsense that is spouted by people who should engage their brain before engaging their keyboard is so ridiculous. They seem to forget that component sharing is common place in the industry and has been for years and that it is the end product is what matters (and yes, the a1 is a cut above the average hatchback, it being worth the money is another discussion entirely).

Then why do most people end up with plasticy, hard, creaking, cheaply made, over-"styled" dross?

Are you honestly going to say that the majority of cars out there in public hands are chosen because of their interior quality? If that were true, there would hardly be any Korean junk, no Vauxhalls, etc etc on the road.

My biggest problem with them by a mile is their styling. I just think they look terrible from behind. Obviously this isn't important point #1 but I think they could have done a lot better.

Pushing your luck here joshy.

It's 100% true though. People on here are always on about what is a nicer place to be when driving etc...well if cost wasn't a issue I would take an Audi A1 over a Citroen C1 any ****ing day of the week. Any time, any where.

What's your point?

You're comparing EasyJet to Emirates there, the Polo vs A1 argument is more Virgin vs BA.

If people were so bothered about interior quality, there wouldn't be ANY C1s on the road.
