Audi TT MK1 V6 3.2 (manual or DSG)

I was under the impression that the 1.8t was just as quick ( if a little less refined) in standard form, and the v6 maimed what little handling it had.

Were all 3.2s quattro?

It strikes me as a similar situation between the mk2 mondeos 2.0 and 2.5.

eh? its nothing like the comparison, the 2l mondeo was crap, slow and unrefined and the 2.5l v6 is actually quite a nice drive with a turn of pace? I had both and it was night and day

Don't be ridiculous, the only thing the V6 Mondeo did better than the 2 litre was, unsuprisingly, accelerate faster.

Never really liked DSG as I felt it to be a little sluggish on the down change and tend to prefer manual boxes still. I believe the Turbo is lighter and handles a little sharper due to less nose weight but the MK1's I have driven were all numb and dead anyway so its levels of bluntness really. I believe the QS was the best of the bunch as has been said but the V6 will sound sweater but like the R32 it looses out in weight.

I would go for a QS 1.8T over a 3.2 Hands down.

Also they only made a few QS's so it will hold its value a little better.

BTW, I owned a Revo maped TT

Yes, I much prefer driving a turbo to a N/A

I'd get the QS and remap the mofo to 280bhp straight off

That'd be more like 265BHP you mean? (the QS is basically just a 225 with a slightly different map, when you remap it you just end up with the same as a regular mapped 225)
(I know there's more differences, but they're only weight saving differences really)

Or...

Get a 3.2 and remap it for....wait for it....265BHP. Exactly the same but plenty of low down grunt and lovely linear power delivery)

I'm a fan of turbo cars (having owned several), they certainly have their place but when there's a bigger, more powerful model of the same car available then they make little sense. The only way the 1.8T is better than the 3.2 IMO is fuel economy so unless you're doing 20k per year it's not worth worrying about.

it was also much nicer to drive, more torque, smoother engine etc, and it was a fair bit quicker, unlike the 1.8T vs 3.2 where the 1.8T is damn near as quick and in a lot of instances quicker. The smoothness etc still stands on the 3.2's side though. Even you've said yourself 6 pots are MUCH nicer day to day than 4 pots

the v6 will drink a lot more, but will have a proper power delivery and will sound half interesting.

... so it depends on what you want

Which instances?

As standard the 3.2 puts out 250BHP with matching torque and most of the power is available from not much more than tickover whereas the 1.8T puts out 25BHP less and the majority of the power is from 3500rpm upwards.

If you are talking about remapped cars then the 3.2 puts out 265BHP with the same power delivery, and the 225 puts out 265BHP but still has the same "dead below 3500rpm" problem.

Drive both cars (remapped or not) at the same speed, in the same gear and floor it and the 3.2 is going to be the quickest in every situation.

The 1.8T is a great engine (I had one up until recently remember) but it's not a patch on the 3.2

If you go onto the TT forums and read about how many owners have gone from 225 to V6 you'll see that there are plenty (all of whom rave about how much better it is). I don't think I have found a single person who has went from V6 to 225 which says it all to me.

No I don't mean 265bhp, I meant what I said. You can get the TT 225's to nearly 280bhp with an aggresive stage 1, a tame stage 1 will see the 265bhp figure.

I'm doing a 80-90 mile round trip in a 1.8T at the mo, but may be doing a 16 mile round trip very shortly.

As for the Sport one, it's on a 2 seater I think?

I wouldn't go for a remap, the only thing I would do is drop a milltek resonated on :)

Did an insurance quote for the one I looked at yesterday with Direct Line - It's cheaper than my Leon Cupra MK1, go figure??

You cant use the back seats anyway, they are way way too small. I had the Milltek and loved it!

I still think the smart money would go on the QS, it will hold it value better then the V6, it will be a little quick and looks better and has very cool seats!

I'll have a look for a QS, but I bet it'll be heading out of what I want to spend.

I've always like the smoothness of a V6 and first like it in a 4motion Golf.

Try about the back seats, but the V6 does have four seats etc. That is my only other concern is boot space / tip run. Father won't be too happy if I keep phoning him up for his V70 T5
