Australian Grand Prix 2010, Melbourne - Race 2/19

Webber was lucky that it wasn't 2 cars he took out. Hamilton was really close to taking out Alonso when he was nerfed. *which would have been worth it tbh. ;)*

This is more like it. Yes there were a number of incidents, which always adds interest, but there was plenty of overtaking too.

I feel for Vettel but I am sure he will be World Champion one day.

Excellent race... Was on the edge of my seat (Lol actually thought I'd catch up on sleep during the race after getting in late) :D

F1 is officially back!!!

Got to feel sorry for Vettel, seems like a lot of race wins he has lost now due to a mechanical failure of some sort. RBR must be hugely disappointed following the promise showed from Quali.

Very happy for Button though. I personally think Hamilton would have had to pit anyway due to trye degradation from all the overtaking/aggressive driving he was doing.

Much more enjoyable race.

Good salvage job from Alonso when compared to what Schumacher achieved from a similar position.

Well well well..

You wouldnt believe the swearing I was doing when Jenson came into the pit first. I'd basically taken the entire McLaren team down a peg or two for being experienced numpties who couldnt perform a race strategy to save their lives.

How wrong was I?! What an awesome race by Jenson and Hamilton.

Webber can shove his front wing up his own arse. If you can't judge speed for overtaking properly then its probably best you don't just run in the back? If Lewis hadn't dodged the first Mark "The Cruise Missile" Webber attack I don't think they'd have even gotten to the second event. Lets see the press write about hooning on the track?!

Understandable anger from Lewis. That strategy was a bit naff. McLaren hedged their bets quite nicely, but you can't really do that to a driver like Hamilton when he is near the front. Undoubtedly would have passed Kubica and a 1-2 for McLaren.

Great drive from Kubica and Massa again. Those consistent podiums give you a decent platform for a championship.

Performance wise.. could anyone have challenged a Red Bull in the dry with clean air? Probably not.. talk about misfortune for Vettel. But good to see different cars on the podium.

Quotes of the day

"Whose idea was this? This was a terrible idea!"
Lewis "The Hoon" Hamilton

"3.5 seconds is the gap.........
.............don't tell me.. I don't want to know"

Alonso "My Car's The Widest" Alonso

"Wettel"
Legard? referring to Sebastian "Reliability" Vettel in the wet to start.

Alonso's drive after lap 1 was very good.
Sadly, lap 1 ruined it.

This is a brave prediction:

Race went fine, no problems on my car, long stint on soft tyres cost a bit of time but we are on the right track, gonna get points this year

Martin Whitmarsh seems like a decent chap, much better than Ron used to be.

Unless McLaren win the championship at which point I foresee the return of the apocalyptic water based punishment of the lord.

Only Whitmarsh will survive.. floating in his carbon fibre ark tub.

Bloody fantastic race.

I feel really bad for Hamilton though who seemed to have the best drive of anyone, overtaking Massa, Rosberg, Webber, and even Button, but ended up getting a bit screwed over.

Did anyone else laugh when the virgin racing car re-overtook schumacher near the beginning? :P

Hamilton was my driver of the day for this really. Made some fantastic overtakes and would have been up there were it not for the strategy. That said I don't think he can blame anybody for the strategy - they got it wrong but it could so easily have gone the other way.
Just wondering though, with Button so easy on the tyres and the Red Bull not great on them, would Button have taken Vettel if he'd not gone off?

Sorry Webber? We both got a run on Fernando?
No, you didn't have a run on Fernando - you were several car lengths behind.

I agree, he was no where near Hamilton and Fernando. Though I'm still surprised that McLaren Pitted Hamilton when they did.

Would be out of line by the stewards to punish Webber, otherwise why would anyone try and overtake, it was a brilliant race, plenty of action and they need to not ruin it.

Probably would have, well he would have at least had a go at him - Webber had to change his tyres so its not out of the question to assume that Vettel would have to as well.

I'm not sure he would have, because I think Button was still losing time to the rest, but he was just far enough ahead. The Red Bull/McLaren pace seemed pretty even, McLaren faster in the straights, Red Bull would have kept Vettel out as long as Button didn't pit either probably
