Australian Grand Prix 2011, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/19

First session over and as expected RBR take the top 2 positions and look rapid. Ferrari don't seem to be too far behind, Mercedes just behind them. Promising session from McLaren as they have similar times to Mercedes and more importantly have both topped no. of laps chart putting some much needed mileage on their cars.

Feel sorry for Chandhok, binned it after 3 corners and got no mileage. Looked like a strange one to me, not convinced it was driver error. HRT continue to be the class clowns, still haven't turned a wheel.

So glad F1 has started again, bed for me now before FP2!

I reckon he lit up the rears and hit the wall. Hopefully he'll own up to it and move on. I doubt there was a mechanical issue but happy to be proved wrong.

Morning all :)
Just got in from work to see Mclaren at least 1to1.5 sec off the pace :(

Hardly a fair comparison though, the McLaren were doing more 'running in' than anything else, and you might well have missed the shot of the red-bull tyres with large chunks of rubber missing.. Not saying that they were the only team destroying tyres, but they were.. and on a very green and cold track.. I would say that the McLaren cars did very well, and its only up from here.. (also consider that the fastest time in practice 1, was 3-5 seconds slower than last year).

Looks like you could be right :) That 1.25.8 lap of Button was so good

The Australian Grand Prix - Practice One

Practice One - Webber leads Red Bull one-two in Australia
The 2011 F1 season finally kicked off this morning in Melbourne’s Albert Park - with a bang. Test driver Karun Chandhok got as far as Turn Four on his out lap before losing grip and cannoning into the wall, severely damaging his Lotus T128.

p2 conditions were cool, with light rain towards the end..

the McLarens looked to top the boards, but I am pretty sure that their times were set just before the 'race conditions' came into effect, but I could be wrong, either way, the mix is pretty good for the top 3 teams, with mercedes a very close 4th.
