Australian Grand Prix 2011, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/19

McLaren once again looks very stiffly sprung.
Floor and diffuser appears to be covered in temperature sensitive paint/wax - but it is a new exhaust/diffuser/floor setup that they've not run before.

Seems like none of the teams want to give away their true pace, wouldn't be surprised if Red Bull take it easy in practice and then blitz everyone in qualifying. :p

I think the same for Ferrari, both teams have the reliability locked down, so we wont know until tomorrow.

I don't think any of the teams actually can show their true pace, the circuit has no rubber on it and the cars just have to tiptoe around just now, they couldn't go flat out if they wanted to.

These new fangled exhausts don't sound great off the power.

Edit: And whomever was asking about the speed of the DRS, it opens and closes in 0.02 of a second. Fast.

Nope, as only the following car can use the DRS. Looks interesting so far, I think this system could well liven the races up somewhat.

Sorry my point was that theres a chance after overtaking a back-marker that they might have the opportunity to attempt to unlap themselves if they get into the right section and are only a second back - Im not sure how significant the drag reduction with regards to speed...

Wont be fun when youve got to lap a few cars racing each other and get boxed in...

ps3ud0

First session over and as expected RBR take the top 2 positions and look rapid. Ferrari don't seem to be too far behind, Mercedes just behind them. Promising session from McLaren as they have similar times to Mercedes and more importantly have both topped no. of laps chart putting some much needed mileage on their cars.

Feel sorry for Chandhok, binned it after 3 corners and got no mileage. Looked like a strange one to me, not convinced it was driver error. HRT continue to be the class clowns, still haven't turned a wheel.

So glad F1 has started again, bed for me now before FP2!
