Australian Grand Prix 2012, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/20

I though Maldonado was going to get penalised for running Grosjean off the road but everyone seems to agree Grosjean was at fault for not pulling out of the corner...

It comes back to my question earlier in the week — who's responsibility/fault is it in those situations.

I personally can't see how it was Grosjean's fault, he left space and just shoved off the track. Rule says you have to leave a cars width. They were side by side, Maldonado didn't leave the cars width and pushed him off the track.

So, the rule they pushed in over the winter has been ignored already. :D

That's if they are side by side, I'm not sure that Maldonado's rear wheel next to Grojean's front wheel counts. In my book he had the corner.

Racing incident.

Maldonado made the pass, Grosjean thought Maldonado would leave some room for him on the exit. He didn't and Grosjean didn't pull out of it quick enough.

I have to say that after last season, where the stewards investigated even a sniff of contact, I welcome some common sense and a return to accepting 'racing incidents'.

However, in this case I agree with Flibster, it did feel like Maldonardo ran Grosjean off the road when he could have easily left him enough space to make the corner.

Has there been confirmation that Maldonado is ok? Just everyone was so focused on the end of the race?

He beats himself up too much though, then enters a bad mind set. He needs to take it race by race and just relax like Jenson.

All that will come with age though!

He's 27 now though for goodness sake, if he's not managed to get a handle on this sort of thing by now, I don't see why another few years is likely to make much difference.

Heikki has been given a 5 place grid penalty for the next race.

Not sure what for yet though.

[edit]
Overtaking before the first safety car line when the safety car was coming in.

May as well not bother going out in Q1. Save all the tyres he can.

I remember Brundle saying Heikki might get done for that at the time, don't think anyone here posted about it at the time.

The reason I'm highlighting that is because there's been a few people having a go at the commentators missing things. They have a lot to do and yet managed to get that bob on.

He got out of the car and there was video of him getting a lift back to the pits on a bike. I assume the lack of any medical car intervention means he's fine, which is good. Was one hell of a shunt, but being straight on the crash zones did their job perfectly.

Hammy still seems like the kid who's mum has confiscated his xbox for being naughty when things go wrong...The pre 2011 Hamilton would have knuckled down and driven the wheels off the thing to stay more in touch, and then perhaps during the SC period would have be in better shape. JB just seems much more the team leader in many ways...
I don't doubt that on his day Lewis is faster, just a shame those days are getting seen less and less!

Well done Jenson, perfect race from him, Red Bull looked a lot better in race than in qualifying, and Alonso was just a monster in the Ferrari, which is quite optimistic for when the new parts arrive, if Ferrari get the car close to the front then Alonso can do the rest, Massa should be replaced ASAP.

Don't know why Lewis was so unhappy after 3rd in the 1st race. Shame that Mercedes seem to have no race pace once again. Kimi was pretty impressive as well, as was the Williams of Maldonado, looks like it will be a good season for racing :D

I had hoped that with the bbc not showing the race until this afternoon they would at least avoid plastering the winner on the front page of the bbc news site.

No such luck.

I feel your pain, I had BBC as my homepage.....idiots

A lot of different countries piggyback off different countries commentary teams.

Australian tv used BBC commentary and are now using Sky for this year.

wonder if kubica will replace massa for next year? there was rumours of it 2 years ago but then ferrari gave massa the 2 year contract, i'm a ferrari fan and it saddens me to see the massa we have now, the massa of 2008 was brilliant.

anyone think kubica would be a good replacement for massa? cos alonso has outshined massa every single week for the past 2 years and he's only costing ferrari by keeping him there.

It still sucks to hear that BBC are still flying everybody out there for a highlights show and having a commentary team sat there commentating on a TV feed for the canadians

Where exactly is the cost cutting for the BBC if they are still flying people out there, still commentating on the race, still doing the F1 forum etc... ?

The costs associated to the BBC are all still there. We were told this was done in the interests of budget cutting. Its balderdash.

doesn't it cost them to show the race live? thats where most of the cost comes from i think?
