Australian Grand Prix 2014, Melbourne - Race 1/19

Innocent until proved guilty.

Look - if they comply with the FIA during the race then I would agree with you (even if after the race its found the readings were correct, and they did use too much fuel / too high a fuel rate)

As they however ignored the FIA completely, then they dont deserve the podium

I THINK black flag is only used for a dangerous car rather than something like this

No, that's a mechanical black flag, which has an orange circle in it.

Mansell got a black flag for reversing in the pitlane. Portugal '89 I think. Schumacher for overtaking on the formation lap in the '94 British GP.

It's the usual from fiat, probably due to the huge sponsorships/money involved.
They really need to have a look at the rules and make it so that race results are decided straight away or at least be able to delay podium by 30mins while results are finalised and have a cut off time. I would rather it be like other sports, where there can be bad penalties but at least they keep the game going.
This has been an issue for so many years and is even remotely a rare occurrence.

With all the electronic data being sent back they can see what the driver is doing, there should be zero reason for a please explain. Just decide on data.

hmmm could have sworn the last time someone got a black flag (for trying to crawl back to the pits with a broken suspension) it was a solid black flag......(my mind might be playing tricks however)

Just lol at Horner

"Horner' they did not turn down the rate because it felt the governing body's opinion was incorrect as it believed the sensor was producing wrong data."
"They informed us [to turn the flow down], and we informed them that we had serious concerns over their sensors,"

"Black with orange circle flag
Accompanied by a car number, it warns a driver that he has a mechanical problem and must return to his pit."

fair enough - lol

Black flag
Accompanied by a car number, it directs a driver to return to his pit and is most often used to signal to the driver that he has been excluded from the race

When the FIA tell you to do something you do it as you know they will get you in the end.

Strange how BBC are still including RBR / DR in the results despite discussing the exlusion (surely they should be excluded until the court of appeal has sat?)

We are not talking about Ferrari ;) Its the other way for everyone else!

Except when Redbull bent the blown diffusser rules and it was allowed to stand the whole season.

I fully expect under appeal his 1st place will stand and this will crop up the whole season.

I think there is a great season of racing ahead although restrictions on testing made this race into a practice run for most teams. The cars look and sound great and the new technology is awesome.

As everything develops which will take many races I think we will be rewarded with the future of motor racing. Shame today was a little bit quiet but only to be expected given the testing rules.

Anything as complex as this would require the usual procedures to follow: checking of sensor post race, comparing telemetry, paperwork, duplicates, forms, officials, more paperwork, double checking, more paperwork, triple checking etc.

It would be pretty poor if it was all rushed and RB managed to find some posy loophole or procedure that wasn't followed correctly thus allowing their appeal to succeed.

Great start for McLaren, same old Ferrari..

If they continue with this dismal showing, I hope Alonso goes somewhere where he'd be able to challenge the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull.

Just finished the highlights and now discover Ricciardo got booted. Sad for him, but not for the team, of course.

Williams could be worming its way back in to my heart after many years and nice to see McLaren back at the business end of things. Keep trolling the haters, Jenson. :D

Cars sound bloody awful though. Getting used to them is going to be a long job.

Really enjoyed the race. As a Lewis fan I am obviously disappoint to see him have to retire. However, Mercedes do appear to have an edge over everyone else so things look bright for Lewis and Nico which is good. Sad about Ricciardo being robbed of second place, he deserved his second place as he drove well.
