Palmer saves himself on his last lap after Q1 flag went out and Button jumped from ~19th to 3rd with 6mins remaing.
McLaren positions pretty decent after Q1, the new system of juggling things up works.
Bloody hell, everyone's making excuses and telling us we should all be patient and get used to the rules. Bull! This needs to work from the start or it is pointless, and it hasn't worked.
Imagine what it would be like spectating at the track side! Litterally no idea what's going on! I now have no interest in going to Saturday any more.
It would be better if the car currently due to be knocked out and at least the one above are shown split screen for us, so we can follow the 90 second warning and how it all unfolds.
Basically they'll be glued to the big screens to keep up, why bother going if you're going to need to do that to understand what's going on :/
Watching split screen of two pit garages
Mix up the grid, and make a better race?
Why not just throw qualifying away then?
Draw straws, or best out of three rock-paper-scissors...
Bloody FIA. How do they keep getting away with it?
Edit: As for it being "predictable" in the past...
It's f1... That's just how it is. If your front running team are a second faster a lap than everyone else, of course they'll be P1.
Palmer eliminated on an in lap.
Button eliminated while sat in the pits.
So exciting! Ffs!
The aim of this change is to make the grid random. Not make qualifying actually any good to watch.
Like the 2017 aero rules have been designed to make the cars faster, with zero consideration about making the race better to watch.
The FIA will do what they aimed to do. It's just what they were aiming for is an utterly stupid target.
Everything I said would be crap gas turned out to be crap.
Not trying to be big headed, just pointing out that a bloke on a sofa can spot holes in a system that a room full of intelligent F1 people thinks is a good idea.
