a few daredevil overtakes but on average poor, can see them increasing drs rather than solving the issue.
Nice to see "battle" for first but not sure its the Ferrari comeback everyone is saying, that was poor tactics by merc, but we will see.

the fear of the turbulent air everyone knew was coming is there in spades.

and yes directors, commentators etc all seemed like n00bs did they all forget their skills after the winter break.

I thought Hamilton was pretty good both during and after the race. Doing the race there was feedback and discussion of the nature you'd expect when hurling a car into a 160 mph corner. As a viewer it felt like he'd lost confidence in the longevity of his tyres but the engineers reassured him. After the race I thought he was disappointed not to win but nothing more than that. There was no finger pointing at the team or moaning about strategy.

Hamilton can be quite heart on the sleeve emotional at times, and so when he's relatively calm he's then accused of just towing the PR and company line or being disinterested. I'm not a big fan of his, and he's certainly made his fair share of silly statements, but it seems the guy just can't win sometimes no matter what he does.

People hear what they want to hear.

Hate Hamilton then Hamilton saying "the tires are overheating" is whining and complain 'as per usual'. But that same guy likes Vettel and he says "the tires are overheating" and it's just valuable feedback. There are things to dislike about some drivers, but not much. Very few drivers really act badly while driving. People get emotional, frustrated, amped up on adrenaline, tired, like you know, everyone else in many situations. People say stupid things, but I can't think of anything lately that a driver has done that makes me really dislike them.

One of the exceptions is Massa who constantly turns in on people then complains about the other guy both instantly from inside the car, after a race, the next weekend then years later will both still be doing it while also complaining about other drivers failing to improve. Even despite the fact that Massa has done that for a decade, constantly, when he had the contact with ALonso later last season I thought at first look Massa hadn't cut in, I didn't automatically jump to he did it just because I dislike Massa... though it turns out with more replays that once again he turned in on a car that was alongside him for easily 30+m before he turned in on him.

The only slight outburst of the whole weekend was Palmer calling the car a joke after qualifying, I could see it wasn't a politically smart statement to make but I also can't say he was wrong. The car had no pace and he isn't anywhere near 3 seconds down on Hulk's pace, then we saw the car being a joke in the race as well.

Just watched the highlights. That was stretched out. I didn't actually watch much of it either.

As above.. Dull as dishwater. Well even my dishwater had more colour than that

I have noticed from last season and the start of the new one is. If Alonso gets out of the points he car plays up.
The fact that he suddenly had Ocon and Hulkenberg all over him like a rash suggests his problem developed while he was in the points.

I'm not sure why people are criticising Hamilton's attitude. I'm hardly his biggest fan but he didn't say anything "whiny" that I can recall.

People also have to remember that we only hear selected broadcasts from team radio.
As such it's really down to whoever is choosing what we hear. So it's never a true representation of the drivers.

Thats very true it is only selected broadcasts - you can write off one "what do you expect me to do about it?" from one race, or even two - but when he starts saying every time he is stukc in 2nd and not trying anything to over take or push then it starts sounding more and more like thats that drivers natural attitude.

However its said "tyres are overheating" , whatever tone is used (even if the engineer in the pits probably knows himself they are overheating and cant actually do anything about it) - its a fair comment and no issue at all - but snarly comments that dont help anyone imo just show bad attitude on the drivers

or frustration/tacticle just liek the wet weatehr calls I think a lot is to charlie and or the sport in general, if enough drivers this year complain openly on the radios about over taking, there's going to be more talk, more news stories and then a chance of solutions in future years.

I think to many people and commentators read to much into radio calls. Just to try and spice things up a bit. there are the occasional complete meltdowns but these don't happen constantly.

I wish i could press a button that enables all radio comms and just reduced the volume of commentators etc.
I do find f1 is one of the sports that the more nerdy, the more you read the more you get into the more you get out. it is not a casual spectators sport and I often wonder how some people watch it as such. As there can be lack of action on track and you need to get involved and this is something the new owners should encourage and make easier.

I totally agree. Reading around the sport is a must to enjoy all the races. There is intrigue and interest in all parts. Even the races that seem to be called "dull" by the masses have lots of technical/development, politics and deeper issues to follow and be interested in. Sure, a slam dunk, hum-dinger of a race is fun to watch every now and again, but its not what defines the sport.

Its much like watching a soap really, just longer running and with more history/detail than any soap still aired today. The more of that you know the more interesting it becomes.

If anything, this means it's doomed in today's media/sport culture where people are not willing to invest the time into learning or closely following. This is why F1 has to change (sadly) to appeal to new audiences.

Poor old Alonso though eh... leaving Ferrari for them to finally come good with a genuine world championship contender by the looks of it. He must be spitting feathers :\

Everyone saying it was a rubbish race - it wasn't the greatest, granted, but have any of us ever said "wow what a race" after an Aussie GP?

I can't remember it. The track is quite boring in terms of overtaking and spectacle. Although I did enjoy Buttons' 2010 win - but that was because there was a bit of rain to spice it up and it was a very interesting race strategically. Can't wait to see what China and Bahrain have to offer.

Worth pointing out that they're reviewing the length of DRS zones following the China GP. I'd be willing to bet they'll just make them longer and we'll be back here at square 1 :p

Watched the full race on catch up, bit uneventful. Although it was a jump in pit stops ferrari do look to have a good car this year. As mentioned in previous comments Mclaren are in a bad place at the minute with their car. Not being a Hamilton fan i was happy to see vettel take the top spot. The Haas car looks good with Grosjean despite the DNF. Perez and force india also look quite good. Looks like a okay start but i think with some better tracks the racing will improve.
