I don't think it will be as bad as testing. The supposed vibration issue only seemed to take hold on the last two days when the car was grinding to a halt on track, so hopefully they have a quick fix.

As for the "shaking itself to pieces" from that article, it's a bit over the top. It's only a few wires falling out. Wires aren't important, are they? :P

So, get up early for 3 days and use a weekly NowTV pass for FP2, qualifying and the race or just wait a few hours?

It's a staggering amount of money for 2 competitive sessions, but then I got a daily pass for the Brazilian GP and that was well worth it in hindsight.

Fact: No Australian has ever won their home GP or officially stood on the podium*

The best result for an Australian at home therefore remains fourth place, which Ricciardo achieved last year and Webber did in 2012

*Riccardo stood on the podium in 2014 but was later DQ'd

And before that you're probably looking at the 5th place Webber took in 2002 in a Minardi.

To be fair, I think the only other Australians to race in F1 since the Australian GP started in 1985 were Alan Jones (by then a blob far down the grid) and David Brabham, who would have only raced a Simtek and a shadow of the Brabham team.

The one thing concerns me about this new era of F1 that we are about to enter is the tyres. Apparently the degradation is extremely low in the 2017 rubber, so much so that key figures within Pirelli have been defending themselves and saying "don't blame us if the racing is terrible" This would suggest that if there is a significant advantage in performance with one of the front running teams then we are doomed. The ever lasting tyres will wipe out strategy and create huge gaps on track position. F1 could end up being an electronic sleeping pill!!

I'm probably watch races this year in catch up only if I have a quiet weekend. Think I've kind of lost interest. mainly due to it being in sky so not being able to see it live. Also I like you get outside on a weekend so with races mainly being at midday ish it kind of steals the day.

That's because it was a new spec that was put in to the car ahead of the last two days, so its quite concerning that their supposed Melbourne spec which was a big step up from the phase 0 spec that was being run from the start of the test.

Now it is being said that this was not the full Melbourne spec so it was a phase 0.5 for example, so lets really hope they get to Melbourne with resolved vibration issues and an engine that can be run at atleast 95% all race.

Wait, so they've got an opportunity to make it worse again. :D

No teams run their engine at 95%+ all race, not even when they were running V8s, had refuelling stops and no real fuel quantity or fuel-flow limits. It just wasn't the quickest way to go racing.

We know, regardless of the engine spec, that Alonso is expecting a "difficult weekend", so he's clearly not expecting much of an improvement in either pace or reliability.

I mean run at 95% of the race spec modes not out and out engine capacity. From testing the drivers comments were that the engine was being run in such a derated mode that it was not even close to what they would run in a race. 50% was banded around.

We-e-e-e-e-ell...technically, Australian drivers have won the Australian Grand Prix. It just happened to be a non-Championship race when they did so.
