I can't see a thread on it so thought I'd start one. Anyone been following the matches in the Australian Open this year? Some good tennis being played with Murray comfortably putting away Guillermo Garcia-Lopez although it should be said the Spaniard's shot from between his legs was a lovely piece of tennis. Jurgen Melzer is next up for Murray.

Nadal is looking on good form this year again to no-ones great surprise.

Homepage of the Open is here.

Been watching the Federer matches and so far he's looking good :), he did get a slight scare when the French dude was playing well a few days ago, but his last match went smoothly.

Saw some highlights of the Nadal Tomic match and I have to say that the Australian looked quite awesome, and he's only 18! - reminds me of watching Federer v Sampras at Wimbledon.. looks like a star of the future, but I wonder if he can stay free from injury unlike some recent up comers.

Can't believe Del Potro went out either! wanted him to play Nadal :(

All the top guys seem to be playing well at the moment, but I guess all eyes are on Nadal for his 4th slam in a row.

Murray's got a tough draw, with Melzer and then Soderling. Week 2 should be a good one.

Wow did not expect Soderling to lose that. It looks like Murray's tough draw has melted away as he thoroughly destroyed Melzer and now faces Dolgopolov instead of Soderling.

I still think Murray will go out to Nadal in the SF, with Nadal beating Federer in the final.

I feel that AM is at his best, but Nadal is winning without being anywhere near top gear.

Nadal getting battered by Ferrer 2-0 in sets right now. 2 games down in the third. Apparently ill/injured leg. Federer must have slipped the water guys a few notes.

This is why Nadal isn't going to be as great as Federer, he's so much more injury prone. Saying that though, he is still young and so I can't really make much of a comparison yet.

Thought I'd quote this though from the Beeb:

To be fair to him, this isn't the first time. Nadal is known to have done this before. If he'll win - he'll be proclaimed a fighter, a hero. If he loses - he was injured, whatever. Win-win situation there for Rafael there. Not a word about David…"

I dont think he will be regarded as good as Federer in the all time rankings. He wont last as long to make that sort of impact and his technical game isnt as good. What he does have is power and energy which is why it takes its toll and will catch up with him sooner but on his day he is easily a match for Federer and it makes for fantastic viewing when they play each other - i.e. 'that' wimbledon final.

Whats the betting on Murray losing to Ferrer tomorrow now? If Djokovic wins it'd have the best chance Murrays going to get to break his duck. Fed in GS finals probably gives him nightmares
