Austrian Grand Prix 2016, Spielberg - Race 9/21

Maybe he has been given no penalty for the collision, as the telemetry showed he did have a brake issue? and the penalty is for driving on with the damaged car?

They do in general do this and they shouldn't, and they do it rather arbitrarily. Different stewards at every race is a joke, this is a sport, it's the equivalent of picking random people out of the crowd to be a referee in World Cup games.

To be fair, I wouldn't say it is. You get different referees for each game. The stewards aren't people off the street. I do agree they should all use the same standards though.

And they wonder why people are tuning out.

I thought it was an awesome race...

FIA decision

Fact: The driver continued on the track with a damaged car spreading debris and with the
front wing detached
Offence: Breach of Article 12.1.1 h) of the FIA International Sporting Code
Decision: Reprimand
This is the driver's 1st reprimand of the current season.
Reason: Article 22.11 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations requires a driver with serious
mechanical difficulties to leave the track as soon as it is safe to do so. We do note the
extenuating circumstances and the fact that the driver of Car 6 (ROS) did slow down
significantly and attempted to mitigate the risk to other drivers and cars.

Fact: Causing a collision with car 44 in turn 2.
Offence: Involved in an incident as defined by Article 38.1 of the FIA Formula One Sporting
Regulations.
Decision: 10 Second Time Penalty imposed after the race in accordance with Article 38.3 (10
seconds added to elapsed race time)
(2 penalty points awarded, 2 points total for the 12 month period).
Reason: Having taken note of the extensive evidence given by both drivers and the video and
telemetry data, it was apparent that Car 44 (HAM) was in front of Car 6 (ROS) – i.e.
more than fully alongside – and that the driver of Car 44 could have clearly made the
turn (T2) on the track, if not for the resultant collision. Car 6 did not allow Car 44
“racing room” and hence the driver of Car 6 was responsible for the collision

Is the bigger repercussion with his team, now he's been officially found to blame?
It will be interesting to hear what they say but I'm guessing it will be 'what's done is done and it's now in the past, we are now concentrating our efforts on next weekend'.

So deemed responsible for the collision, but basically no penalty? What a complete joke. What does it take to warrant a penalty these days? It doesn't exactly discourage Rosberg from doing this again and Mercedes seem more on his side than ever. I hope Hamilton wins the championship to stick to Mercedes and to stop one of the biggest brats and most undeserving drivers from winning the WDC.

Been an odd season for Rosberg.

100/100 for the first four races
53/125 for the next five.

I can't see him suddenly finding 100% form again, especially after today, so it spells good for another Hamilton championship.

Hamilton needs to look at moving to Ferrari, Merc are just a joke and taking the ****, they either need to loose their 2nd rate average driver in a good car (Rosberg) which they won't do, or LH needs to bring another team some decent money in like he has Merc. I'd like to see LH and Vettel in the same team, no problems with any collision's as they're friends off the track and LH taking Rosberg's Merc in a Ferrari still would be sheer gold, though we would still have to look at the smacked face of Rosberg.

The referee's are professional though, they are paid a wage, have to go to courses every year and are(somewhat) held accountable for bad decisions. They learn from year to year and at least attempt to improve. To a large degree a lot of stewards are ex drivers but many have been out of driving for years, aren't always the fairest or best drivers nor is being a driver necessarily good. There are basically no ex footballers who are professional refs because players are more likely to be biased. Ex drivers have preferred teams, friends on teams, etc. Stewards should be professionals, not ex drivers, not ex team members in F1, it should be a distinct group of people who get professional training and be as unbiased as possible.

If i was lewis I would be thinking like this as well, FIA ruling farse yet again, the BS with Rosberg and for some reason hammys pit stops where much slower.

Same points and reprimand as Lewis got for going the wrong side of a pointless bollard on an abandoned qualifying lap.

Yep, driving 2/3rds of a lap with your car disintegrating during a live race is totally as dangerous as going the wrong side of a bollard, totally!

it's not the stewards fault that after the penalty given to Rosberg Ric was still too far behind for it to be effective. What other penalty aside from a 10 second time one should he have been given?

Drive through, as that's what he would have been given had the race been longer and he didn't stop. So a 25 second penalty. We have seen them hand out 25 seconds or grid drops for far less.

The Mercedes PR saving face excuse machine that kicked in immediately obviously worked.

FIA Stewarding, what do you expect? I heard Hulk hardly lifted under yellows but wasn't penalised during qually yet drivers further back were for the same thing.

Inconsistency is the name of the game with the Stewards!
