Austrian Grand Prix 2016, Spielberg - Race 9/21

GP2 race is nuts. Rain, some people going onto wets, safety cars, spins, track drying out, red flag caused by guy crashing in pit lane exit, screw up under red flag getting penalty, stalled/broken car on the restart with the leader getting stuck in the pitlane exit which stopped another car which stalled being able to leave the pits.

Just how lucky was Kvyat in that crash. He grazed the wall entry to the pit lane, going sideways. Half a car length to the right and he'd have smacked into that wall sideways at a real high speed. That would have been a horrible accident - similar to Perez in Monaco a couple of years ago.

Great session, great pole by Lewis and deserved 2nd for the hulk and a great P3 start for Jenson. Will be interesting to see the battle between Vettel and Rosberg.

Anyone else think Kvyat won't be on the grid next year?

He definitely won't be. Demoted to sister team and then have crash after crash since said demotion? Writing is on the wall. Especially with the cut throat Red Bull.

And they promoted him and dropped JEV. Ridiculous

Yeah I liked JEV. So who would replace him, do they have anyone waiting in the wings?

There's 5 drivers in the Red Bull Junior team, all of which are listed as test drivers for Toro Rosso. Gasly is also the RBR test driver and the most experienced so he must be favourite.

So Hulk avoids a penalty because he made a split second blip of the throttle while still setting a PB in the sector, while Palmer, Haryanto and Nasr have been given 3 place penalties for not showing "significant reductions in speed" through the Yellow Flag zone.

Lol F1

Hulk being front row gives the race more excitement, they probably bend the rules to please themselves. Pretty sucky.

Magnussen also 'got away' with it so it wasn't just Hulkenberg. They clearly lifted off more than those that got penalties, kind of speaks for itself no?
