If you don't like idea of you car braking by itself, consider they are spending millions researching and developing the AI that will make an active decision to kill you over other people depending on the situation the car finds itself in.

remember doing that stupid "moral machine" quiz they did, where it was stuff like do you run over the bank robber or the pregnant woman, as if the car is realistically going to be able to tell the difference....

the pregnant woman could be a nazi and the "bank robber" could be going in fancy dress to donate a sackful of his honestly earned money to an orphanage.

granted if it's a choice between a pedestrian and a car then choose the car, but that's more on the basis of a better chance of survival in a car on car accident than car vs pedestrian, same for car vs inanimate object (eg a wall)

My Focus used to occasionally think I was about to crash into the barriers at the Mersey Tunnels if I rolled through slightly too quickly and it attempted to slam on. I learned to wait until the barrier had moved fully up before pressing the accelerator again

I have just reduced mine to 'late' and very rarely do I get any false detections. However a life saver it is so auto braking should not be turned off, the system will be mandatory and part of the MOT soon anyway...

The only time I ever needed my auto braking system to work and it didn't even register (This was below 10mph)

on the other hand, if the autobraking is now improved to recognise cyclists, I can stop running down the nine lives

interesting that whilst on motorway outside lane, it is not (visibly) tracking traffic in inside lane, which you do as a driver, to spot erratic drivers etc

Or it has an error and stuffs you in to another car or wall for no reason

Yet another reason to run an older car or classic then.
