I have just bought my very first automatic watch(Omega Speedmaster Legend 3506.31) and I was how long it should take before it keeps the time more accurately? I have only just bought it last night and started wearing it this morning and as I expected it keeps going a few minutes fast or slow.
Am I correct in thinkingit will take a while until it stabilises?

Remember that even the best automatics are orders of magnitude worse at time keeping than a £5 Casio :o

your gonna get this with any auto watch no mater how much you spend, anything up to +10 / -10sec's a day is good, just keep wearing it for a few days and make sure you keep an eye on it

I do expect a few seconds here or there but not minutes. As I said though I have only had it on my wrist for the last 6 hours.

Yeah everyone is right :) it takes a while for the movement to settle in mine loses about 5 mins in a month, so about 8 seconds a day.

A few minutes fast or slow in one day - that doesn't sound right at all. I've had tons of automatics, I can never remember any of them being more than a few seconds a day out (particulary if they're chronometer certified.)

Picked up my Rolex LV Sub two weeks ago and it's 2 secs a day fast at present. Not as good as my Superocean which was lesss tha 1/4 sec a day fast.

I'd take your watch back and explain it's minutes out rather than seconds.

Most autos run fast initially, maybe as much as 10 seconds a day , this settles over a few months

if yours is going out by mnutes then it needs looking at

I think maybe I jumped on the watch a little too quickly. I've had my eye on it all day and its been perfect to be honest. I'll see how it is for the following weeks but I expect it to be ok now.

Sounds like an excuse to overcharge people for inaccurate timepieces to me.

Still what do I know, I've only got a 15 year old Accurist that cost less than £100 that's never been more than a few seconds out per year.

And I did have to change the battery in 2001, which was a bit of a pain.
