AV amp choices between Onkyo and Pioneer

Sorry havnt used it in a long long time.
Any questions you have im sure you can ask here.

If your wanting a REAL bargin it seems the RX-V2700 would be the model to buy as it shares many of the same components as the newer RX-V3800 (judging by the specs) Its available for £683.00 in places. Thats a very capable amp for little money, even if it doesnt have DTS Master Audio decoding. Its a HDMI 1.2a with 90% the specs of what the £1400 V3800 is.

Regarding the AV Forums V3800 thread very few have disliked the new 3800 model and at £1400 you expect a lot of amp and quality for your money. Certain dealers and owners have stated the Yamaha uses better audio processing, with more detail in the sound compared to even the 905. Yes the Onkyo range is a powerhouse but if you dont need all the power (which you wont) then it seems the Yamaha is a more refined gentle giant.

I got slated earlier on by praising Yamaha but one things for certain their audio heritage and range of products rarely comes up short. If "you" like them, well that i cant answer.

ps - just one "e" in my latte :)

who slated you? thats rubbish nobody did. ill say this though, if a £1400 amp isnt better than the 805/875/905's then something is definitely wrong lol its not quiet as one sided as you make out - a few people over at avforums have said they prefer it to the 905, a few said the 905 was the better amp:) no way to really tell without trying them both. its a personal thing just like you said, but who doesnt want a surround powerhouse when they are spending that sort of money? lol

Calm down james, it wasnt aimed at you.
In general several in the thread said they didnt like Yamaha musically etc.
Thats fine, as is the opinion you have and others have of your Onkyo.

All im doing is try and help someone looking for an AV Amp thats already tried and decided against yours.
Once again like anything you will find some that really like something and others that dont.
Regards the price, i think youll notice im recommending a currently available sub £700 AV amp thats almost identical to the newest networking, ipod friendly £1400 model.

The Onkyo is for cheap skates anyways ;)
I heard you can make toast on it too

Actually it was Shimmyhill himself that didnt like the yamaha sound, so hes really coming round to square 1 again. Of course their is always stereo power amps for such people.

Sometimes the difference in what were used too compared to a new or different sounding piece of hardware takes some getting used to.
People buy new gear and say "mmm it dont sound like my old gear", well ffs if you liked your old stuff so much why the hell you changing, eh. Of course its going to sound different...

Ok throw me on a Ulster Fry make it a nice 12 piece.
Ill come over and kick your ass at a few games...

I have an offer on a 2700 funnily enough, and yes i would run a seperate 2 chan via preouts.

Pretty sure i will be a 2700 owner by the end of the week - i can do PCM for now and wait and see how the HD formats go.

Not sure if you know but can the Sky HD remote control the volume on the 2700 amp as i do with my denon (remote code) ?
