Hi, this might be a dumb question, but im looking to go see this film in 3D, some listing state IMAX 3d, some just say 3D - does this just mean the size of screen at the cinema?

the size of the screen and the design of the screen and sound system, I'd say this was the type of film worth seeing in IMAX, especially as it was all filmed for IMAX

IMAX is a much, much better quality. Few films this year I really wanted to see (Star Trek, Transformers 2, Harry Potter) went to the BFI IMAX in London. Quite breathtaking, especially the opening 3D part of Harry Potter, I assume that only sections of Avatar are in 3D?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAX probably explains it better. If you have a choice go for the IMAX

Nope , its all in 3d and i belive all filmed for IMAX resolutions :)

Wow, that would be impressive, not sure I like the look of the film though, not enough to spend £60 getting to London and seeing it anyway!

AFAIK This film is not filmed in IMAX. It will be like other "normal films" shown in IMAX (They normally upscale the film (DMR) and use borders so it will not take up the full IMAX screen).

Harry Potter, and Star Trek are the same, normal films, upscaled for IMAX screens, Transformers 2, some of it was filmed in IMAX (meaning it takes up nearly the whole, almost 4:3 ratio, IMAX screen).

It will still be in 3D though and I believe it will be shown in 1:78 (near 16:9) format.

The only IMAX cinema near me closed in 2007... Opened 5years before its time, think they only ever had 3 rubbish films to show.

Pretty much the same as the one here in Bristol.

The IMAX tickets in Birmingham are only £9 too - cheaper than the director's lounge screens at my local Showcase.

If you're going to watch Avatar I suggest you sit on the top row to avoid any "splash damage" from the geeks who will be fapping manically for two and a half testicle-grinding hours.

I shall be going to see this in IMAX 3D at the Manchester Printworks Odeon.

£7.00 with student discount :D

Seeing the Dark Knight in IMAX (was a 2D showing, but still a proper IMAX res) was simply breathtaking.

Only proviso is you HAVE to make sure you get there early and sit at least half way back, otherwise you physically cant fit the whole screen in your field of vision!

I was looking at the Manchester one - do they do 'premium' seating or is it a case of get there early?

Yes theres a premium set of seats, which normally arn't worth the money they charge (extra £2 i think), but in the case of the IMAX they really are the cream of the crop.

You can specify on their website if you book.
