Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix)

I wouldn't say it is. Obviously they had to condense the live action so they butchered so much. Cartoon is leagues better than this. Dare I say, one thr greatest animation series ever made. Yea beginning few episodes may seem childish but it gets better almost instantly.
It definitely follows more of the original than you'd expect from a live action remake, which is one of the main positives.

I hope they don't screw up Toph when she's eventually introduced.

Yeah the animation is amazing. I'd agree. Starts off a bit childish but at it goes on gets better and better.

The final fight is absolutely epic.

Enjoyed it for what it was.
They butchered it but what else could they do? trying to condense so much. Lots of plot lines ignored/changed and not for the better. Acting was alittle off in places, I get in the original they are children but it just looks strange, didn't like Zuko at all.

The bending was cool though and the end battle was nice.

wouldn't be something I rewatch every once in awhile like the animated series (inc korra)

I thought it was reasonably good, but wonder who it's really aimed at. For those who loved the original cartoon it's an inferior version of the story, and for those who never saw the original (or people who refuse to watch animation) a lot of the moments would fall flat because they rely on knowledge of things not shown in the live action version.
