Average MPG for a petrol runaround

'Town' driving seems hugely variable on here, so really need average speeds along with mpg.

In my car, Corolla T-Sport: Avg speed 13mph (Town driving!) = 26-28mpg
I had a brand new Fiat 500 1.2 Start/Stop (not TwinAir) courtesy car for 3 weeks which managed 34mpg @ 14mph average. I can't see anything outside of hybrids beating that by much.
 
My Primera when in standard form (2.0 150bhp) would average 33mpg. Thats a 26 mile commute with a average speed of 30mph. My GT-Four is in the mid 20's. My Missus Yaris T-Sport averages 40mpg (1.5 105BHP) which is getting used a lot more by me now.

Indeed. Driving on fast flowing A roads and motorways everyday is going to give you hugely better MPG than driving through towns,b roads and traffic every day. length of the journey is obviously very important as well. If you only drive 5 miles for example you car might be barely up to temperature.

Comparing mpg figures on a forum is very hard as everyone will have different commutes/journeys.
 
Over 11k miles i've averaged 44MPG. This is about 90% through rush hour traffic.
The maximum i've ever achieved from a cold start is 63MPG (23 mile journey).

A 1.6 petrol engine with 170bhp :)

Perform a brim to brim test to see how accurate the trip computer is.

For its age and engine I would suspect this to be slightly low if anything, but not abnormally.
 
Mine averages 23.2mpg according to the dash, but it's not used daily, and when I do it it's only short journeys of less than 5 miles and normally get stuck in traffic.

But the other hand, towing the caravan it managed 31.1mpg and cruising on the motorway at 70 gets me 37ish. All this is not bad considering it's a 250hp volvo estate!! Normally put my foot down in it and not bothered about economy. It's miles better than my old modded 325i which averaged 17mpg!!
 
God ive averaged 17mpg over the past 8k, a large part of this is down to my driving as it should be low 20's with a steady foot.

I would say between 32-35 is about average for your typical petrol car.

I do think BMW's effiency in their petrol engines is fantastic. I can't believe the mpg figures you can get out of an M135i.
 
On the trip computer it's says 29.1mpg over 11200miles with a average speed of 22mph.(don't understand the the average MPH bit since I do 50+ miles a day at 40-60mph with the odd roundabout)

I could never get any more than 28 mpg out of the ST, even super duper granny driving wouldn't do it. Think my average in that was 25mpg which was appalling for the performance (still loved the thing though).

Mine never used to go above 28, ever. Had the alignment/tracking done about 6months back and it improved by like 5-7mpg on average :D
 
Probably reason why mine was poo, was always messing about with the wheels and never had then aligned on the ST.

Massive improvement to the handling when I had it done on the vxr.
