AVIVO (or similar) video transcoding on 3870X2 ?

Do the 3870X2 have the same/comparable AVIVO video conversion/transcoding that the X1xxx series cards had ?
I was a big fan on my old X1900XT, as - amongst other things - it did a great job of transcoding Microsoft DVR-MS (MCE) files......

Thinking of getting a X2 to replace my GTX, as the video conversion abilities would be superb......but want to know whether it still does this ???

Ive have a 2600xt and hd3850 and neither have AVIVO. Only x1k cards supported by the software on ati's site.

As said above they do have it, its called "ATi Avivo HD", but they just call it HD for short, so the above hd 3850's full name is Avivo hd 3850, they just dropped the Avivo bit.

Al ati cards above 1xxx have the ability. The transcoder is software only (no hardware acceleration) as far as i can tell using it. As already mentioned, can only be accessed via basic mode of the ccc, which is an oddity but ..whatever .. If you cant access it, then youll need to download the Avivo component from ati site.

So the AVIVO software decoder/transcoder thingy does definitely work on 38xx series cards ? Want to be sure.....the AMD site does tend to suggest only 1xxx series cards....or is taht because it was a separate component then, and now fully integrated ?

the transcoder isnt hardware accelerated - its just a very fast software rendered. i believe it was patched to run on nvidia gpu's too.

If it runs on the GPU then it is hardware accelerated as most things are classed if they reduce cpu load to do it.
If its purely software based then there is no need for a certain gfx card to be in place to use it & it will purely use the cpu which may be the case.
