I still can't believe that.

Drain cover comes lose and is sucked up.
Recovery vehicle drives into bridge.
Oil leaks all over the car.

Pinnacle stuff right there.

First part limit penalty applied today. Giovinazzi is on his 3rd control electronics, and only 2 are allowed per season. So 10 place grid drop for him.

As for Russell, it looks like the drain cover was loose before that, seen a slow motion shot of Leclercs car lifting it slightly, bit it trashed Russell's car. In some ways, very lucky it didn't pierce the Energy Store.

Oh, and the last time a drain cover came loose in Baku, it trashed another Williams, but it was Bottas and in 2016

In that case Monaco would have been off the calendar years ago. Drain covers have flown off there a number of times before - one nearly hit Button in the head a few years back.
 
Feel desperately sorry for George Russell. That's his whole race weekend compromised.

Mind, it was already pretty compromised with the Williams being a starting money special when perfectly intact!
 
What's the protocol for replacing parts and penalties if it's not the fault of team, car or driver?

Cost wise I assume there will be some compensation from somewhere but I read they might have some engine issues so may incurr penalties at some point. Surely that's a bit harsh?
