BA to strike

£14k a year to be a cabin crew member at Virgin?!

But I can see how it's an attractive job for younger people with no qualifications though. At least they get to jet about. Like has been said, basically they're just waitresses. Reminds me of the "holiday rep" jobs that pay really poorly but they have a good laugh.

Apparently they already get double the pay of cabin crew staff from some other airliners and they still think they deserve better :/

At times like this (such large amounts of unemployment) I would like to see a company get rid of all these strikers and employ some more grateful people. Striking at x-mas is so lame, imagine the amount of family get-togethers they could ruin :/ They don't deserve a job.

BA staff took pay cuts last year so some workers would not be fired, virgin and other airlines yes do have cheaper staff, however they arnt happy and have a high turn over.

Some of the cabin crew have been there since is was state owned, so huge pay and benefits. Pay and benefits that simply dont exist anywhere else in the aviation business.

BA can't compete with the likes of virgin when they have that kinda burden holding you back.
Can't believe 90% voted for strike...... Greedy aint the work for it....

Irony!:D

No excuse for striking throught x-mas and new year imo, considering that they're still miles ahead in terms of pay, even after a cut

Meant to be flying from Glasgow - Heathrow - Kiev on the 22nd to see my Dad.
That now isn't looking likely, and has left me awfully fed up.

Now looking at going to Paris though, every cloud 'n' all that.

This will tarnish my opinion of BA & will attempt not to use them where I can.

It isn't BA's fault though, they didn't call the strike, and from what I can make out, the union and its members are being very greedy, and don't give a toss about their customers or their business's future.

I agree DD but at the same time the only way to punish those staff for the trouble they are going to cause is not to fly BA again and hopefully a good number of them will in turn lose their jobs. Unfortunately albeit at the price of people who are working against this strike

I fly home this week, my next trip to the US will NOT be with BA is i can at all avoid it.

There service sucks there planes on th ehouston route are tatty and staffed by "in the main" miserable grumpy people.

I understand that they have had pay freezes and other things (didnt they not pay them one month) but complaining about people getting promoted on merit rather than service wouldnt even fly (excuse the pun) in any other industry.

Ive been told im a pay freeze as well, i dont like it but i know my company has to to it to remain competitive.

looks like another case where reasonableness should be tested and damages paid to customers by the unreasonable party to me.

A great idea. But decided by who? Management? The Union? You? The passengers? All of the above will be pretty heavily biased.

I have another question: what are the sacrifices that senior management are making to keep the company afloat?

I'm flying to see my family on the 21st... it had been said before the announcements that the 21st was the earliest day they might strike so I'm glad I got away with it. If I end up being stuck abroad with family unable to get a flight back home then I can live with that.

I know I have been very lucky though and I sympathise with everyone who has been hit by this. What the union are doing is obviously wrong. It's quite simple, they are keeping people away from their families at Christmas and they are doing it for money. Humbug.

Even from the cabin crew's point of view it is a bad idea. If the strike works and their bosses cave in this time they will only have profited in the short term... at the expense of long term pay and job security.

Newsflash - we're in an economic black hole! Some of us lost our jobs this year which is a 100% pay cut. The only "good" pay outcome anyone can hope for at the moment is that they still have a job at all.

I'm flying BA on the 19th Dec and am due to fly back on the 2nd Jan. Without getting banned I cannot start to express how ****ed off I am. GREED GREED GREED.

Pretty disgraceful to be honest when they get paid far more than other airlines staff doing the same job. Would be good if each and every one of them that voted for the strike somehow be laid off without any compensation
