I'm afraid do have one character on an kill asap list, Byron from season 5. Not a main character of course, but was prominent enough to appear in multiple episodes in one of the supposed main storylines in that season. Though I think we all know the 5th season was a bit of a hodge podge of bits of story after they we unsure they were going to get another season. Still, as smarmy unlikable gits go, Byron was a particularly smarmy unlikeable git.

you're not wrong - i don't bother with season 5, except the last ep of course.

Yea season 5 was all over the place, show was essentially canceled. They filmed sleeping in light well ahead of time in case they didn't get renewed, so we got that weird 1 million years into the future end episode to season 4. Seqson 5 was mea t to be all out war with psychs versus norms but massive budget cuts and changed in production shut that down.

Yeah i hate him too because he really corrupted Lyta Alexander's character and made her all revolutionary, which was understandable but she was awesome :P

Lita had a good arch, at least you got to see reasons why she flipped. Also she was a walking nuclear bomb.
Rewatching it, I forgot how much they tried to encorperate space physics.

3/4 way through season 3 now it's really quite good. Forgot how much of a slow burner or was and 20 odd episodes in a season proper TV :)

I finished my 3rd Babylon 5 binge a few weeks back and it is comfortably my favourite sci-fi series. Favourite series fullstop tbh. Londo and G'Kar cannot be beat as characters. It's the most innocently ambitious, epic, sometimes cheesy, endeering story. I will be getting hold of the new remastered version before the next binge in about a decade.

Good man.

It gets good about 1/2 way through the Fall of Centauri Prime is a bit of unknown classic. Of course as JMS said S5 should have began about 3/4 thru season 4 where Sheridan gets captured, the earlier part of S5 is padding as it only got renewed at the 9th hour

Way earlier as it has Claudia Christian in it who had long departed by that point. If you understand what what went before it wraps things up perfectly its simply mind blowing. Possibly my favourite episode, definitely up there anyway.

The 5 episodes that close off S5 from Fall of Centauri Prime onwards through to Sleeping In The Light are such higher quality than the three quarters of the season that came before.

There are few TV shows with a solid final episode but Sleeping In the Light breaks my heart again every time I watch it.

"Well, look at that. The sun's coming up."

When Season 3 was being filmed JMS didn't know if the funding would be available to do Season 4 but went ahead with his planned story arcs. When the same situation presented itself for Season 4 he decided to bring everything forwards rather than risk the show being cancelled without actually ending. It's why the Shadow War is rather underwhelming and finishes in about 6 episodes.

Warner Brothers did indeed cancel the show but then TNT stepped in with funding for the 5th Season but there were no properly active story lines to work with. The final episode of Season 5 was actually filmed as the final of Season 4 which is why Susan Ivanova features, but she isn't in any other S5 episode after a falling out between Claudia Christian and JMS.
