Actually, it's not all that stupid. My mother in law used to be able to tell her cat that she was going to the shops, and the cat would leave the house. Now the cat can't be arsed.

its not stupid atall. the moment i say the word VET our cat suddenly decides it doesnt want to be inside..... cant think why.
seriously though, when we bought our cats, they hid in our cupboard for a good two weeks, only coming out at night and other times we werent around for food. it took my dad lying down on the floor talking gently to them every now and then for a few days to get them to come out.
put something comfy under the bed for the little thing, and a small bowl of water near the bed where you wont step in it, and the cat wont have to venture too far to get to it
If that fails, just let it be. It'll come out soon enough and as long as it's eating you can just enjoy the peace and quiet before it comes out and doesn't stop meowing.
