Back again :(, fresh start

You have got to understand, these guys do not need to give you advice. They have done this more than once and will not tell you bad advise.

I've only built 2 or so PCs but learnt almost everything I know from these guys without actually having to ask them. Search the forums a little and see what other people are being recommended. I bet it's quite similar.

Thank you.....If I have helped you too without even knowing, I'm glad :) In all honesty over the last couple of days most of the reputable "speccers" haven't been online much and I've seen some pretty poor advice being given :(

You are right I don't "need" to give advice but as a loyal member I get free P&P and this is my way of giving something back to OCuk. All we ask is for a little thanks and a modicum of respect. I received an email earlier from YdLeet who I had helped recently with a spec and build advice for his first build. He let me know that the rig was running great and he was most pleased and it was all done by his fair hand. He also very kindly gifted me a game code that he didn't want, which was a very well received Xmas gift :)

cheers hono, and i know its my 1st build I'm just confused, you've got to understand im going to be spending £600-700 on a complete risk if it works or not :) but i think ill go with the 7850 option u listed 1st and i already have the 120gb ssd and 500gb mechanical drive orderd, and ill get an os with my student card i think you get mad discount at currys

First off dont mention competitors and you're welcome. Yes I do understand, it's not a risk if you take your time and follow the instructions\videos and ask if you are unsure. You get an amazing warranty with these parts, much longer than you would get buying a machine off the shelf at a retail store and the end result will be much better.

When you are buying an OS please make sure it is 64bit or you wont be able to use more than 4GB of the RAM that is installed. The aerials will screw onto the gold terminals you can see at the back of the mobo. Where you put them externally is down to you, I'd probably just stick them ontop of the case.....which would give it an old skool CRT TV look.

Hono its worth noting you may have some space problems with that GPU as it is 3 PCI slots deep not the usual 2 slot :) I know it can affect regular ATX mobo's not sure what effect it will have on ITX ones?

He went for the 7850 ;) Well spotted though.....this is what happens when we spec at silly o'clock. As I said even the best of us can make mistakes

The Gigabyte one? Nice :)

Btw Happy Christmas ;)

Yeah the GB windforce X2. I meant to add the HIS 7950 in the other spec, which is cheaper and clocked faster don't know what happened there :/ Didn't think he would go for it due to the price anyway though.

Happy Xmas to you too fella

i havent actualy orderd a gpu yet... orderd everything else and im sticking to it now i went with everything else you told me im just holding back splash £100+ on something i dont know i need as i was looking on the recommended gpu's for arma 2+3 and it says gtx 260 or 5770 (the game runs mainly on cpu its not got great textures and such just huge maps) so I'm going to do a bit of research myself and see what works good enough and save some cash that way, if any1 could recommend something cheaper than a 7850 i would appreciate it

Anything less than a 7850 is not really a gaming card.

Save your money up or be disappointed.

Honestly just get a 7850, it's a pretty low-tier budget gaming card as it is, and Arma 2 won't run too well on anything lower.

I'm running a 4.8Ghz 2600k with an MSI Power Edition GTX 670 and I still cannot run Arma 2/DayZ on anything above medium online without it dropping below 60fps.

Just a word of warning, when it comes to Arma 2 DO NOT get your hopes up, the game is a piece of crap.

Arma 2 ran fine on cards below 7850. Used to play it with a 4870 and then 6850. Can't remember FPS, but it ran fine 1680x1050.

Just a random aside, thanks be to all you people who spend the time putting suggestions in threads like these. I have been lurking, figuring out what to put in my SG07, and the help you give to everyone else has inspired me!
