That's not what the error message is asking you to do.

It's asking you to check the source and destination disks for errors.

My Computer > Right click on the disk drive > Tools > Select check now

You should be able to check the back up disk without restarting the PC.

To check your system disk the PC will need to be restarted after you've clicked check now.

ok checked the drives e and f went ok also drive c had to be restarted to check ,do i now proceed to back up ?

this checking for errors is taking its time almost as long as backing up ,is there a faster way to back up ie usb 3.0 external hard drive will/does this improve back up speeds or is it pending on the speed of the external drive for back ups

The checking will take time.

If you're backing up over USB 2.0 then the write speed is limited to around 30MB/s so around 34 seconds for each GB of data. If you have 300GB to back up that's nearly 3 hours.

If you have a USB 3.0 external drive (and USB 3.0 on your PC) or eSATA then the write speed will be limited by the write speed of the external drive but will probably be at least twice if not three times as fast.

could you recommend a good usb 3.0 back up drive the one im using at moment is the one i bought with nectar points from sainsburys hitachi 1tb looks alright but a bit noisy gurgly when in use .

how easy will it be to remove from the enclosure it is in ,also my back ups are still not completing ,shall i try a system restore to an earlier date to resolve the issue
