Hi there, not really sure if this is the right place for this question but ive got 3 hard drives in my computer and I am planning a new build where I get a much larger HDD to take it down to 1 for my data and stuff, what would be the best way of transferring over 5+TB of data do you guys think? this also includes some programs. would investing in a cloud backup be best or just put them on an external HDD and paste it all back in once the new build is done?

Thanks

Might depend on the nature of your new build and if you're planning to reuse any of the 3 drives in that.

My usual approach would be to do the new build and then temporarily attach the old drives to the new machine and copy across your data in Windows. Programs will likely need re-installing, rather than just copying. If you use Steam you can just copy your steamapps\common directory though.

If you couldn't attach the old drives to your new build, then an extenal HDD would be the best option - a cloud backup would be limited to your internet connection speed so 5+TB could take a while to copy up.

^^That^^ but I'd attach the new bigger single drive to the old machine and use that to copy the files, only because attaching one drive is less fuss than attaching 3. :)

Plus you can unbox, read things, and start assembly while the old machine is copying.
