Backing up over network.

I use a thing called Vice Versa Pro, it lets you keep multiple paths in sync in different locations - I use it to backup my main drives to an external HDD. The beauty is that once a file is copied across it only copies it again if it's changed, great for externals or network shares.
There is also an XP PowerToy called SyncToy which can backup across a network. You can have it Echo your data meaning any changes on the original are reflected in the backups and also full Synchronisation - any changes made either side will be reflected on the other.
You can set it to backup specific folders in different ways and also on a schedule. An excellent piece of FREE software.

Does the XP powertoy restore everything though?
IE, will it image the HDD to a network drive, and allow me to restore that image without having to first install a normal version of windows, then installing the powertoy again?

Been using Ghost for years and backing up your disk image over a network was a pain. You had to create Bootdisk with LAN driver etc.
Tried Acronis True Image yesterday and much much better. You can even install it in your MBR so you can boot into True Image without even needing a CD, just press F11 at startup.
Once loaded it automatically recognised and installed drivers for my NIC and picked up the IP from the DHCP server.
I now have the option to backup to a network share or ftp server. It will even backup to a USB disk, something Ghost wasn't able to do without again creating a bootdisk with USB2 drivers.
You can download a trial from Acronis, the Workstation ver. will be all you need.
