Backing up / sharing.

Hi guys,

After having a work hard drive go down and losing quite a bit, i was left feeling sick, had to go for a drive and it actually took me a few days to get over it. It's a very odd/unpleasant feeling but i'm sure people can relate.

This leads me onto this thread. I have a home PC with a 150 gig slave drive as a back up. I would like to know the best way to auto back up this slave drive to another place in case the drive fails (cloud? another hard drive connected to my home network? )

I am totally clueless about drive sharing and backing up, could anyone advice the best free solution to achieve this?

At present, i only have the one PC at home.

ive nevr done this myself but I know acronis true image has an auto back up option

I think win7/8 has its own backup aswell but not 100% sure on that
 
You can back up your whole PC through Windows 7.

If you have either an external drive or a second drive in your rig you can make a 'system image', which bascially stores everything as it is on your drive, windows, apps, games etc. The great thing about that is if you ever get a virus or serious issues with windows you won't have to install all your apps\progs again or lose any data from your pc.

Then if for whatever reason you have to resinstall windows, you can just use your system image and it'll get your computer back to exactly how it was (including all installed programs\data) at the time you took the system image. The system image is compressed, so it won't take up as much space as everything you have on your hard drive but it'll give you an estimate of the space you need before you do it.

You can also make a system image of single or multiple partitions.

If you click on 'Getting Started' then back up your files in windows 7 you can create a system image from there, then create a system repair disc. The system repair disk lets you install everything from the system image.

Do lots of googling and pick a combo you feel is right for you.
