A few selections from some backstage work at LFW yesterday, I couldn't cover the actual show since I had to rush off and shoot another one nearby. The X-Pro 1 performed admirably but my S5 Pro needs to be replaced since the sensor is showing its age in low light. Tempted to convert the whole set to black and white because of that. C&C welcome.

I always wanted to go to one of these. Nice moments but i would think some if not all would be nicer in B&W, perhaps a lot of these i seen in the past are in B&W.

It's an amazing experience, imagine a wedding shoot but a hundred times more intense! Closest thing I've experienced would be shooting one of the big protests in London. Yeah I think they'll be in B&W when I post them on to my website, they're in colour since some of these will be going to print soon.

It's that or she doesn't want her MUA to get annoyed at her for turning her head. :p

I converted one of the shots to B/W, I do like the look better but you see B/W backstage shots so often - monochrome does evoke a certain idealised image of a fashion show, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're going for.

Damn LFW eating into my model supply for the one week I'm properly free to shoot... Half the girls I'd normally go to first are walking -_-

Nice I am going on Fri and Sat!

Have fun, especially if you're heading backstage. Such a buzz. I covered the trade show, I think this Fri and Sat are the public ones which are more retail focused. Hopefully I'll get to cover some of the bigger shows for Spring/Summer 2013.

Haha, I got offered it by one of the camera retailers who I have bought loads of gear from. Don't think it's backstage but definitely the pit.

I can check if they have any spare for Saturday?

I'm friends with a few magazine interns who went mad when applying for press passes and so couldn't cover all the events. Just say you run a fashion blog (I got asked that a few times by some of the smaller designers who were showing off schedule) I'm pretty sure the organisers set aside passes for blogs. Pit work is fun too, it's amazing how fast the models get changed.

Londonbairn: I'd like a spare pass too. :p /greedy

I would love to but i have plans already. Would 100% up for it next year though.

Ah I see, handy friend to have!

i have a ticket to go this saturday to the photographers pit for 2 catwalk shows.
Just need to source a 70-200 lens to take with me, as my 24-105 isnt going to cut it.

What time? I will be there from 9:30am. I am going to take my 70-200 and 16-35 I think, might also pack the 85. I'd love to use the 400 but it will probably be too long and look silly!

Most of the photographers I saw used a 24-70, an 85 and a 70-200. 200mm is useful at the start of the catwalk, 70mm is just about perfect for a tight body shot when the models pose at the end of their walk and turn around. Saw a woman using an old school Nikon F2 as well, made me wish I brought my Rolleiflex along!

Here's a preview selection I sent to some of my intern friends the night I got back, there are some catwalk shots there:

50mm (on crop), but the runway at that particular show wasn't too long. I guess the turning point was about 10-12 feet away from the pit (which largely remained the same through all the shows I saw this weekend).
