A friend of mine wants me to help her backup and restore her HTC Chacha later on. It on Android 2.3 I believe. It's starting to play up so going to try a full factory restore before getting a new phone!

So she's not rooted, what's the best way to go about it? Use HTC software on the PC if there's such a thing?

what is that she wants to backup? you can simply transfer contacts/photos/videos/messages to PC and if you have apps backed up to Google account, they will install once she signs into her account on the new phone.

App data can only be backed up when you're rooted.

I don't think she's worried about the apps, she doesn;t really have any. It's the personal stuff and settings she wants to backup.

I use titanium on my S4 but I don't find it particularly straight forward!

you can't backup settings without being rooted. is the new phone going to be same model as old one? as if it isn't it's pointless anyway.

I meant we're going to try a factory reset and see how it goes as a last resort before getting a new phone. She's very attached to it :D

Oh well, she'll have to sort the settings out again, not a big problem.
