Hi.
I own a Custom Built PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. 16GB Corsair Ram, Seagate 1TB Hard Drive and SanDisk Extreme 240GB SSD. I won't mention my Processor, Graphics Card or PSU, because that's not apart of the issue.
Basically, I have Windows 7 installed on my SSD so my PC is faster, but it's poor for storage. So, my Seagate 1TB is set-up as a backup drive. Lately, the Seagate has been running a lot and making noises, like an internet Anti-Virus is scanning it for Viruses etc? All backups have been successfully backed-up, so there's no reason for the hard drive to be running at all. I have a 1 year Licence with Kaspersky Internet Security 2013. I've scanned the drive for viruses many times, and there's nothing. When the Hard Drive starts making noises, I check to see if Kaspersky is scanning it, but it never does. Kaspersky is updated automatically, so I'd like to think it's not a Virus on the Hard Drive? but I could be wrong?
These scanning noises last for around 10 minutes, then it goes into idle for 5 minutes at a time? then the whole process starts again?
I've run Windows Defrag and Seagate diagnostic tool, there is never any problems detected? I don't have a lot of data stored on my SSD anyway, I looked, and 165GB is free. My backup Drive should remain idle, as there's no reason for windows to be using it.
I'm not doing anything heavy on my PC when this is happening? What exactly is going on here??
